Google voice assistant issue

Hello

I updated my venu3 to latest firmware (13.19) just a few minutes ago and I was happy to read in changelog report "Improvements to Voice Assistant interactions with various Android phones"

  1. My happiness stopped just later to have a long press on central button of my V3 SmileJoy

I've not any ideas about to solve it.

In others post, anyone suggest to unistall Google app in Smartphone and don't update it to last version. I done it but without solutions.

Last idea is to perform a factory reset to V3 but I'm almost certain that it no works.

Any experiences about? Advices?

Thank you

  • Yes, I adjusted the volume, but that's not the problem, the speaker icon simply doesn't appear on the screen and disconnects after a while. The headphones work, I check what's going on in the Bluetooth menu, but in both cases it works and not everything looks the same.

  • It suddenly started working on my venu 3. I didn't change anything. With Gemini I have still a problem that answer is not working properly but it excetutes commands.

  • I was shocked when testing immediately after installing the Android December 5th security update (no Venu updates since 17.01 nearly a month ago), and it worked nearly perfectly about 5 times in a row. Then it started failing again randomly (more than working... makes no sense).

So there may be something to it actually being Google's issue. There's seemingly a related issue where personal results will not show on the lock screen no matter what the settings is set to, for any Bluetooth device, not just Garmin.

I think we're definitely making progress, but there is still work to be done.

  • Both my Husband's Venue 3 and my Venus 3s the assistants suddenly started working. No updates that I know of. Problem is even with the volume up it can barely be heard. So it process requests but I have to look at the screen to see replies. I think Garmin needs to find a way to have it work on the watch itself so if you can't hear it, you can see replies on the watch. I'd sacrifice a day or two of battery for that feature.

  • I just recently bought a Venu 4 hoping that somehow it would work but really wasn't expecting it. It did connect but the response was so quiet I had to put the watch right against my ear to hear anything. Next morning I tried again and it wouldn't work on the watch at all. I returned it for a refund. I'm now using an Amazfit Balance 2 that  works properly. I would still prefer the Garmin but will not get another until this defect is remedied. Incidentally, the Amazfit has a much better Bluetooth antenna as I get a working signal in a number of places I never had with the Garmin.

  • Wise decision. I am waiting for my Venu 3 to die and I will get back to Amazfit. I had GTR3 before I switched to Venu 3 and I regreted instantly.

  • On my Venu 2 Plus, it also started to work unexpectedly.

  • I can report that on my Pixel 8a, updated 5 Dec 2025, venu 3 sw version 17.01, the issue is still there. As broken as ever.
As reported by some others on this forum though, if I have bluetooth headphones connected to the Pixel 8a and then use the watch assistant it does work.
    How strange is that.

  • I've had the problem of the Google Assistant not working on my Venu 3 for ages. I'd got to the point where I had completely given up on it.

This morning, I thought I would give Gemini a go as my Voice Assistant for when I use Android Auto in my car. After installing Gemini, I thought I would do some digging into the problem with my watch to see if I could get it working.

After much stuffing around, un-pairing and re-pairing my watch and phone; and changing many settings, I now have Gemini working on my Venu 3.

I have changed a *lot* of settings, but the 2 most recent things I did prior to the voice assistant starting to work again were...
    * I changed the name of my watch in the bluetooth settings. The default name for the watch on my phone was "watch". I changed it to be "Venu 3"
    * I changed one of the permissions on the Google App. The permission I changed was to enable the "nearby devices" permission.

I'm not sure if it was either (or both) of these changes that got it working again, but prior to making those 2 changes, The assistant would launch on the phone but not on the watch.

I'm not sure how long it will work for, but this is the first time it has worked for well over a year.

Hopefully one or both of these changes will help others.

  • My latest guess at what is happening on this is that the watch isn't always connect via bluetooth.

On my phone I can use garmon connect fine, this synchs with the watch no issue. My venu 3 is definately paired fine with my phone.

However, if i look in phones bluetooth settings I can see the Venu 3. However, it isn't actually connected.

My guess is that it only pairs with bluetooth if it needs to, And when it's not connected the assistant doesn't work.

I had a guess at how can I make the watch and phone connect. I opened up Garmin COnnect on the phone and synched the watch. This linked the watch via bluetooth. Whilst it was synching I started the assistant on the watch - and the assistant worked fine.
