Venu 3 Connection issue with Schwinn IC4 Speed/Cadence Sensor

My Venu 3 did a software update this week. Since then, it would not automatically reconnect to my Schwinn IC4 stationary bike. Initially, I could still manually connect the two together for a ride. Things I tried to get the automatic connection back:

  - restarted my watch -> didn't help

  - unplugged the bike, waited 30 seconds before plugging it back in -> didn't help

Thinking it might help to remove the sensor from the watch and re-add it, I tried that. Now the watch can't find the bike (yes, the bike is in bluetooth pairing mode).

Venu 3 Software Info:

  SW 13.17

  Sensor 33.13

  ANT/BLE/BT 9.16

Any thoughts? Would be great if Garmin Tech saw this and chimed in.

Thanks...John

  • Any luck with this? I seem to be having the same issue with my venu 3s

  • Any luck with this? I seem to be having the same issue with the Venu 3s

  • I’m afraid I haven’t had any luck in getting this resolved. I spent a lot of time with a front line customer service person who I finally convinced to kick it up a level. But I’m not convinced it was ever looked at by a programmer as I think it could be easily fixed. Here’s a summary of why I’m sure it’s a Garmin watch software problem.

    - The problem was first seen after a Garmin software update.

    - A friend has the same Schwinn bike and a heart monitor. His heart monitor will connect with my bike. My watch will not connect with his bike.

    - I’ve been working out in a gym recently with equipment that offers a Bluetooth connection to speed/cadence sensors. My watch won’t connect  with this equipment either (3-4 different machines).

I’m hoping the update here catches someone’s attention. Thanks for asking.

  • I've recently purchased a Venu 3 watch and am generally happy with it, however I've got the same issue.  The Bluetooth doesn't pair with my Schwinn IC4 bike.

I have discovered that I can use the Wahoo app to pair with my Schwinn IC4 to record ride data, then have Wahoo mail the workout file to my email address and finally upload the file to Garmin Connect.  I'm willing to do that as convoluted as the process is, however, the real issue is that the ride data is never input to the watch and therefore not reflected in much of the watches functionality, i.e. body battery, intensity minutes, recovery time, etc. which really defeats the point of those metrics.

    My watch versions are below.

    SW Version 14.15

    ANT/BLE/BT Version 9.16

    Sensor Version 34.12

Based on the OPs versions, it sure seems like an issue with the ANT/BLE/BT 9.16 version.

This issue really needs to be resolved by Garmin.  It would at least be nice to get some acknowledgement that they know about this issue and that it's being looked into.

  • Below is a summary of the steps I've taken to identify and resolve this problem. Please contact Garmin Customer Service and reference my Ticket # - Ref#: 29535070K1..

From everything I've done, it sure looks like an issue with the Garmin watch software. Please ask them to elevate the issue.

    Thanks...John

Garmin Venu 3 Speed Sensor Connection Issue

    • My Venu 3 did a software update some time the week of Feb 28, 2025. Prior to that, I had no issue connecting to my Schwinn IC4 spin bike. Since then, I’m unable to connect to the bike.
    • Software information after the update: SW13.17, Sensor 33.13, ANT/BLE/BT 9.16
    • The issue was reported to Garmin Customer Service on Feb 28, 2025. Ref#: 29535070K1. The ticket request is still open with no resolution.
    • Other Actions Taken:
      • My Venu 3 was turned off and restarted, as was the bike, to no avail.
      • At Garmin’s request, the watch was reset to factory conditions but would still not connect to the bike.
      • At Garmin’s request, keystroke logging was done a few times while trying to connect to the bike with no identified resolution.
      • A friend has the same Schwinn IC4 bike and uses a heart monitor to connect to it. My friend's heart monitor has no issue connecting to my bike.
      • My Venu 3 will not connect to his Schwinn IC4.
      • Two other individuals have now reported the same issue with a Schwinn IC4 in the Garmin Forum, hoping I had a solution for them.
      • I’ve been going to a recreation center the past 3 months and have tried to connect my watch to multiple pieces of equipment. The watch does not see any of the sensors (elliptical, NuStep recumbent bikes).
  • Had the same problem.  So, i installed qdomyoszwift on my iPhone.  When i turned on the bile, the qd software had no trouble finding the bike and pairing with it.  The software acts as an intermediate bridging software.  It collects the IC4 data, and re-emits it with calculated power.  I then search for the qd output with my venu 3, and it connects and collects the data from the qd software.  Works great.  I’ve simplified the settings, but the creators, Roberto, is a great source and the documentation on FB is extensive and complete.  Very active community.  It’s a one time purchase (I think $5).  ‘Ve been using it for years with an IC4 and an EX3.  Take a look…
