Venu 3: after upgrade to 13.17: Wi-Fi Sync shows "Transfer complete (1 file failed)."

Hey there,

I performed the Venu 3 firmware upgrade from 12.12 to 13.17.

After the upgrade, performing "Settings >> System >> Connectivity >> Wi-Fi >> Wifi Sync" shows an error "Transfer complete (1 file failed)." within a red circle.

Activities and other data seeminlgy are synchronized as they do show in Garmin Connect, but still I would like to understand what this failed file message is about and eventually get rid of it.

Thanks for suggestions.

  • i just duplicated your steps with mine, and got the same result.  Mine had updated a couple of days ago, and I hadn't checked this.  I also got some other update this morning but don't know what it was.

  • I got the same thing when I updated the other day and I'm beyond upset.

  • This same exact thing happened to me the other day and I'm not able to answer phone calls through my watch.

  • I am seeing strange behavior since updating to 13.17 as well. My Venu 3 is not being shown as a connected Venu 3 in the bluetooth settings of my S23U phone and I am seeing a BT device called 'Watch' that is not connected. Watch seems to be syncing with the app and phone but this is really weird.

  • Hello HokieAl,

I didn't notice another update on mine.

What does your "Settings >> System >> About >> SW Versions" info show?

    My watch shows:

    • SW Version 13.17
    • DFU 871072
    • GPS Version 13.00
    • ANT/BLE/BT Version 9.16
    • Wi-Fi Version 4.03
    • TSC Version 3.25
    • Sensor Version 33.13
    • WHR Version 19.01.02
    • Connect IQ System 7
    • BMX 19.1.2
    • Secondary BMX 20.0.3
    • DSP Version 1.00
    • Audio Tones 1.18
    • NFC Version 3.5.3
    • WLT Version 3.2.13
    • API Level 5.1.0

    Whatever all of this means...

  • I just compared and my Venu 3 has the exact same data as what you posted.

  • Hi...

Have a Vivoactive 5 which updated to v13.17 last week.

Other than heavier than expected battery usage, it was working fine before that.

As soon as that update completed, I noticed that my phone notifications were not coming through...

Then I picked up that my device was not syncing to my phone over Bluetooth. It seemed to sync sync fine over WiFi (to my Garmin Connect profile) for a day or two but then that began to fail too.

Instead, an error code 0500 alert would pop up.

I tried all the things... Rebooted the device, rebooted my phone, deleted and reinstalled the app (later on)...

I made the mistake of removing the device and it refuses to be re-added back to ConnectID... Even my iPad had the same issues (my smartphone is a Samsung).

Eventually, connecting the Vivoactive 5 to my PC directly, updating the  Garmin Express application, then rebooting my PC (because it Express was not picking me up the Vivoactive 5), and then it finally it seemed to work...

In that all I was able to re-add the WiFi networks which I could not connect to nor re-add from the Vivoactive itself, from my device and from Garmin Express on PC.

And now I get the "Transfer failed due to 1 failed" error but I'm grateful it can actually sync again!

Oh! I updated a bunch of Connect IQ apps and I am seeing a remarkable improvement in the battery life.

I used to see it start squealing around Day 4 due to it draining energy at 1.5%/hour. But after this update and the IQ apps update, that rate has dropped to about 0.35%/hour.

  • Hi Everyone -

We have been able to reproduce this internally and are currently looking into a resolution for this disruption.  Once we have any updates, I will be updating this thread.  At this time, no further information is necessary.  Thank you for your patience while we work on this disruption.

  • I'm experiencing strange behaviour too on my Venu 3. The Body Battery has started being weird and unpredictable. When I record an activity, the body battery shows the activity as Basketball after a few minutes, even if that isn't the sport I played. When I power off the watch and start it again, my sleep and activity data factors from the body battery simply disappear. Very confused, everything else seems to be fine, though I have just tested the wifi sync problem too and I do get the red circle as well.
