Google assistant suddenly won't connect. Uninstalling Google updates not working. Had been working fine until 2 days ago.

I received a venu 3s for christmas. I initially had some difficulty getting the Google Assistant to work. By uninstalling all Google updates, I could get it to connect. Once it connected the first time, I could update the Google app and it worked like a charm. Suddenly two days ago, Google Assistant stopped working. I have done all the troubleshooting I can come up with. No updates are available.

The watch is a trusted device.

I am able to use the Google Assistant when my screen is locked

I have uninstalled all of the Google updates and tried connecting before updating the app.

I have removed the watch from the Garmin Connect app and completely from my Bluetooth settings.

I have turned the watch off and then re-paired the watch to my phone.

I cannot get Google Assistant to start working again.

I can see the phone screen become active when I trigger the button on my watch, but I never get the triangle with the microphone on my watch face. When I look at the actual Bluetooth connection for the device, I can see the toggle for audio slide over into the on position, then it toggles off then back off then back on again before finally turning off for good and I get the message on the watch face telling me it can't connect to Google assistant.

I noticed that I have three categories for devices in my Bluetooth settings. Speaker, headphones, and other. According to research I've done, other means Bluetooth isn't quite sure what this device is and, it considers Garmin Venu 3s to be in the "Other" category. Is this the problem???

  • Be sure to have the last version of Google installed. I noticed this workaroud desn't work if you have unistalled the Google app update.

  • Did not work for me too on S25Ultra

  • Thanks for your reply. I tried this and it worked. I’m using a  Galaxy S24 ultra so it’s not just a pixel phone issue. I look forward to  seeing if it’s a permanent fix

No, it's not a permanent fix, since this issue continuosly occours every long time (about 7-8 hous) the watch does not invoke Google Assistan. Anyway this workaround is quick and prevents the watch to be paired and configured again.

I think Garmin should investigate with Google about what Google data is written by Google app in the period that watch doesn't connect to Google Assistant. Another particular I noticed is that for every Google data delete, it's necessary to re-configure the Google Assistant settings regarding the lock screen, the personal results and the opportunity to receive personal results in the headphone.

Maybe some privacy issue occours during the inactivity time which cause the connection to no longer work and fail.

For example, with Bixby you cannot do several personal thinks that you can do with GA, like sending messagea or calling with the lock screen. I think another test should be to avoid to configure GA settings (lock screen, personal results and receiving them on headphone) and if issue occours again. In case the issue doesn't occour, so a link between these settings and the issue (privacy?) May be iphotized.

These are only me supposition which I hope that can help Garmin to solve this extremly annoy issue.

  • It worked for me, but just partially, in locked status it doesn't, unlocked it worked, but voice is very silent. Setting is on max, but has no real effect.

Are you sure to have the last Google update installed?

    My phone is Galaxy S24

  • This worked, although a little finicky. Time will tell how long it will last however until an official update helps this. Thanks!

I faced the silent voice issue too every time I delete Google app data. In thic case you need to set the voice volume during the invoking of the assistent, just tapping on the microphone icon on the watch or by setting it with the volume phone buttons. Regarding the lock screen functions, I've already provided an explaination in my last replies you will see after the comments will be approved.

  • I prefer Garmin to do their job well. To make everything work without any stupid actions. I bought the device and it should work.

  • New wrinkle that I just noticed today. My Samsung s24 Ultra is suddenly not compatible with phone calls and Google Voice assistant. I had a lot of connection troubles this morning after sleep mode was manually turned off and it took a long time to get the phone and the watch to agree that they were connected. The watch said it was, the phone said it wasn't. However, I could receive text messages and sync with connect even though the phone said it wasn't connected.

I removed the watch completely from both Bluetooth and the Garmin Connect app and when Connect was finally at to the point where it was going through setting up the device, I got a pop-up telling me that my phone is NOT compatible with my brand new watch for making calls, which is WHY I got it!

There was a new update that came through within the last couple of days and that had to be will put the whammy on the phone calls. I briefly had voice assistant working for just a minute this morning when all of the trying to get things to connect and now that's gone again too
