Google assistant suddenly won't connect. Uninstalling Google updates not working. Had been working fine until 2 days ago.

I received a venu 3s for christmas. I initially had some difficulty getting the Google Assistant to work. By uninstalling all Google updates, I could get it to connect. Once it connected the first time, I could update the Google app and it worked like a charm. Suddenly two days ago, Google Assistant stopped working. I have done all the troubleshooting I can come up with. No updates are available.

The watch is a trusted device.

I am able to use the Google Assistant when my screen is locked

I have uninstalled all of the Google updates and tried connecting before updating the app.

I have removed the watch from the Garmin Connect app and completely from my Bluetooth settings.

I have turned the watch off and then re-paired the watch to my phone.

I cannot get Google Assistant to start working again.

I can see the phone screen become active when I trigger the button on my watch, but I never get the triangle with the microphone on my watch face. When I look at the actual Bluetooth connection for the device, I can see the toggle for audio slide over into the on position, then it toggles off then back off then back on again before finally turning off for good and I get the message on the watch face telling me it can't connect to Google assistant.

I noticed that I have three categories for devices in my Bluetooth settings. Speaker, headphones, and other. According to research I've done, other means Bluetooth isn't quite sure what this device is and, it considers Garmin Venu 3s to be in the "Other" category. Is this the problem???

  • Yes, I did the same procedure yesterday but obtained the same result. Problem not solved.

  • I am also experiencing this same issue and it's infuriating as I cannot use my watch as a mic and speaker for calls anymore which is one of the main reasons I chose this model (venu 3). This is obviously a widespread issue and I hope it will be fixed asap as the longer a solution takes the likelier this becomes the straw that broke the camels back causing me to switch brands. I've been having more and more frequent issues and this one is very bad and should have had a solution pushed within 24hrs.

  • Mine has had issues since the last update. When you press the button for assistant it just keeps saying connection until it finally turns red and says can't conect. This is weird as it does conect and assistant will do what you asked it to do through the watch. The verbal reply through the watch has also stopped.

I suppose we just have to wait for the next update as this feature often dies with updates.

    I'm connecting to a galaxy S24 ultra

  • Can confirm, new Venu 3 owner, has to be an update issue on the watch. Initial setup VA was working fine but after update install now it only loads and sends the assistant to the phone instead of of on the watch. Pixel 8 Pro and watch latest update. This needs to be fixed as it was a primary selling point for me.

  • I have the same thing on my s24ultra

  • I also have the same problem since updating to 13.17 with Samsung S23 Ultra

  • Same problem here, Pixel 9 Pro.  And the watch has gotten software updates again yesterday and again today but I can't tell what they've updated.
