Garmin Venu 3 Inacurrate While Running

I switched to the Garmin Venu 3 from an Apple Watch Series 6. The heart rate reading while resting seems accurate, matching my Apple Watch as well as blood pressure monitor whenever I use it. The problem occurs whenever I go for an outdoor run, indoor run or inclined treadmill walk. The heart rate reading on my Venu 3 will go up with my actual heart rate until it rises to 141 or 149, specifically those two numbers, and remain at that reading. Sometimes it will stop at 141 and other times it stops at 149. That reading of either 141 or 149 will remain for ten to twenty minutes, or sometimes longer, before finally rising and giving a more accurate reading. I have run with both of my watches on, Venu 3 and Apple Watch, and my heart rate definitely gets above 141 or 149, so that can’t be an accurate reading. I wear a silicon strap on my watch as suggested to keep it snug against my skin. I also do plenty of warming up before exercising. I have turned the watch over so that the sensor is reading from my inner wrist, tried my opposite wrist, wore a sleeve over the band to prevent outside light from disrupting the sensor and even shaved any hair that may be interfering. This is a ridiculous issue for a $450 watch to have. I’m hoping Garmin can offer some sort of fix for this issue but have little hope as there are many other similar complaints. Unfortunately, I did not see the numerous complaints until after I purchased the Venu 3.

  • Which activity profiles are you starting when tracking those activities? Each activity profile has a unique algorithm that impacts how the heart rate is calculated. How many of the green lights from the optical heart rate reader are flashing when recording those activities?

The following can be found in this support article - Garmin Watch Optical Heart Rate Accuracy Tips

    Using the Correct Activity Profile

Each activity profile is designed specifically to be the most accurate during the activities that are most similar to them. Always use an activity profile on the watch that most closely matches the activity you are performing. For example, using the Elliptical app while running outdoors could result in incorrect heart rate being recorded. Using the correct profile will help with heart rate accuracy during the activity and for all day tracking, as heart rate is calculated differently for each activity type.

  • When I am going for an outdoor run, I select the run activity profile. When I do a treadmill run, I select treadmill activity profile. And when I go for a walk, I select the walk activity profile. Regardless of which profile I select, I have found that either all 6 green lights are on or the outer 4 green lights when I take it off to look.

  • Are you saving the activities once completed? May I have permission to review your Garmin Connect data?

  • I have been saving my activities. You may review my Garmin Connect data. If more recent data is needed, let me know.
