how to pause the rest timer in a strength workout?

I have a strength workout with 2 mins rest timer between sets.

Sometime I need to pause (or increase this timer), if I need to wait a bit till the machine is free or if I just need extra 30 seconds of rest.

The question is: how one can pause the rest time or add some time to it like a minute (afterwards I can always stop it earlier and switch to the next exercise).

  • The only way I know is to pause the activity completely with the upper right button. That is not great though if you care about the workout stats, as this time probably won't be included in the Total and Rest time in the Garmin report

  • yes, moreover, in this mode the watch can finish the workout by itself automatically without even asking you. Happened with me once.

  • As already mentioned, pressing the stop/start button will allow you more rest until the next set begins. The other option is to set the duration type of the rest step to "Lap Button Press." That way, all your metrics will continue to be recorded regardless of how long it takes before you're ready for the next set. For me, the exercises that cause the most systemic fatigue (squats, deadlifts, etc.) I've setup this way. The downside is that I have to pay attention to the step timer and HR to know I've rested for the appropriate amount of time. You could also set the duration based on heart rate below XX bpm.
