I am spontaneous sometimes and add in burpees etc while strength training. I also am coming of acl surgery, so sometime I switch an exercise depending on how I am feeling. How do I just workout with out having to make up exercises, etc?

Have you tried using the "Free" activity option?

You can also use free at the end of a customized workout. Then after uploading you can edit the exercise in Garmin Connect to reflect what you actually did.
