Battery life 11.14

I am on version 11.14 and my buddy is on the previous version (I believe 10.20). We were camping last weekend and had both charged our venu 3’s to 100% before leaving.  When we left on Sunday. I was on 14% and he was on 62%.  We have the same settings and did the same activities.  Is 11.14 that bad on battery?

  • Mine always says 10 days after charging....but it rapidly goes down, and I don't get to more than 7 days without enabling battery saver. I do 1-2 activities a day, and have turned off all systems GPS, all unnecessary apps and all notifications except phone calls, so as a high-end smart watch I am really surprised it would drain that fast.

  • What activities are you doing without GPS? Those should not drain battery that much. I can get up to 7 days, if I don't do ANY activities. With activities every day, I usually, get 4-5 days. Mine says 15 days after charge. I believe that notifications from phone as well as wrist gesture are draining the battery. I always though that I could get 10-15 days if I would disable wrist gesture and all notifications and without any activity. But if you're getting 7 days without notifications, then I don't know.

Now I'm using AOD so I got used to charge every 2-3 days. Usually when it falls below 40%, I will put it on charger while I take shower.

  • I think you and the poster before, although providing useful information, are responding to a posting that 6 months ago and has largely been resolved. I can’t speak for others but I’m back to the watch face and functions that were on my watching prior to this fiasco. All seems well.

  • have you used the Connect IQ store to install apps/watchfaces?  At one point when mine was draining quickly, I believe it was because it was continuously trying to update a watchface.  If you open the store on your phone, does it say it's updating or installing an app?

  • I think it would help if the moderator (I guess Garmin.Zac) replied to these messages and say they are resolved or at least put more details in the changelogs so people can see this information.

  • I totally agree. The skeptic in me is pretty much convinced this was all either a memory management issue that Garmin didn't fully appreciate resulting from the 11.14 update. Without a Garmin explanation, we can hold our opinioins. Sunglasses

  • Damn, 4-5 days is tough...ok, I'll feel better about my 5-7days :-D (Though I'll always hold a grudge over it dying on the last day of a 4-day hike, even though it was in battery saver outside of the actual walking time each day!)

The only GPS activities I track are walking/running (daily) and cycling (maybe 1x per week, and not for long sessions at the moment) - everything else (strength training, hiit etc) doesn't need GPS - I'm generally tracking between 30min and 1.5 hour's worth of activity each day, though.

Re notifications: I don't get phone calls that often (maybe once or twice a week?) so I don't think that's going to be draining much battery :-D Almost all other system notifications (including step, activity etc targets and morning/recovery reports) are off (I don't even use it to listen to music while exercising!) - wrist gesture is on at the moment, though it's set to low sensitivity and turns off quickly.

  • True, I see that now!! :-D Glad that issue has been resolved at least :-)
