Battery life 11.14

I am on version 11.14 and my buddy is on the previous version (I believe 10.20). We were camping last weekend and had both charged our venu 3’s to 100% before leaving.  When we left on Sunday. I was on 14% and he was on 62%.  We have the same settings and did the same activities.  Is 11.14 that bad on battery?

  • Have you contacted Garmin? Personally, setting Pulse Ox to manual makes sense anyway.

  • I have reched out to tech support but not heard back. Last time we activated battery logging and after a week it was determind that the battery was fine. Which didn't help. This time it's much worse 24 hours after full charge and the battery is down to 64%. Out of the box set up. Face is on glace, no activities recorded. So it will be flat in 3 days. My previous conversations with tech support have all ended with them telling me the device is functioning nomaly, which it clearly isn't. I don't really hold out much hope. Going down the route of turning off sensors, which was the advice, will ultimatey lead to, just turn the watch off and only use it when recording activities, that way the batterery lasts for 14 days.

  • Did they offer any suggestions? When I called about a month ago, when I first installed 11.14 and battery life went abysmal, it was suggest to synch with Garmin Connect. Connect with Garmin Express, go thru whatever, then hold down the top button for life 15 seconds or so, release, and the unit would power back up.Battery life still sucked, so then I started deleting apps starting with the Glance watch face and a few others. I put Pulse Ox to manual, made sure always on display was turned off, gesture to get the time, others that I can't remember. I connected to phone via BT and WiFi in our house. I don't use music nor do I use the gps function for much of anything. With a resident watch face on, I charged to 100% and started monitoring. I saw in that configuration that I was using 8-11 per cent a day. I wear 24/7. The Garmin watch face displayed battery per cent and steps in addition to time and date, etc. If I wanted outside temp and weather forecast, I just scrolled down and it was instantly displayed. After a week, I was down around 30% so I recharged to 100% and reinstalled the Glance face. I did fall off a little but nothing drastically. Things went on okay for a few days and all of a sudden I lost more than 25% one night. I went through the menus looking for something that might've been changed. Nothing except I was now at 12.10 software version. So, I started my experiment all over again and got the earlier reasonable discharge rate after uninstalled Glance and going back to the Garmin watch face. I'm just about to the point where I'm going to reinstall Glance or Big Easy (same author) and test. Oh, back to Pulse Ox, I test manually every couple weeks.

  • Found this post searching for help with my battery, I get maybe 24 hours of charge. I've never installed anything on my watch since buying it. I have it for the heart rate as I have a health issue that requires I keep a close eye so that is all I ever need it for, nothing else is turned on at this point and it's pathetic.

  • I think you should press Garmin harder. Call them and ask specifically which settings you should check for excessive battery consumption. The rep should be able to tell you the recommended setting. I have constant heart rate on and Pulse Ox on demand. Get the online manual and look at the heart related settings. Are you Bluetooth connected to your phone. Do you connected to your home WiFi? There's a section in the online manual on "Maximizing Battery Life." Have you looked at it? How often does your watch sync with your phone? Have you tried a factory reset?

  • Thanks for your advice. I could and probably should do all those things. However I have many other things in life to problem solve and I didn't expect my watch to become one of them. I really expected a £400 watch to be pretty solid.

  • I bought it back in May this year, I went through the initial setup and only set up whatever the set up walked me through. I have changed nothing, outside of official updates, ever since. No apps, no clock faces, nothing else installed. It went from over a week of battery life to around 24 hours this last month.

    I've done two factory resets.

  • As I mentioned before, call Garmin and press them hard. Sometimes, with Garmin, it depends on who you get on the line. It shouldn’t be but it does happen. In the past, I’ve spoken with reps that came across more argumentative than helpful. Other times, 100% cordial and seemed genuinely concerned. I would even press upon them why you purchased the watch and why you need it to be accurate and reliable. Good luck…. PRESS THEM!

  • This was provided by a user in another thread having to with potential battery impact related to a SW/FW update. Doesn’t hurt to try….

This procedure will NOT reset your watch and no settings should be lost.

    1. Plug the device into a computer’s USB port using the charging cable.
    2. Open Garmin Express and select the device. Sync to make sure there are no updates available.
    3. Press and hold the top button for 45+ seconds until the screen goes completely blank while connected to Garmin Express.
    4. Once blank, release the button and allow the computer to power it back on. If it doesn't power back on, you may need to unplug the USB end and plug it back into the computer to power the device back on.
    5. Charge the watch back to 100%.

My battery appears to be back to normal now after 5 hours of use.   I will continue to monitor it over the weekend and post back if I continue to have issues but this may be the fix for me.
