Battery life 11.14

I am on version 11.14 and my buddy is on the previous version (I believe 10.20). We were camping last weekend and had both charged our venu 3’s to 100% before leaving.  When we left on Sunday. I was on 14% and he was on 62%.  We have the same settings and did the same activities.  Is 11.14 that bad on battery?

  • I'm also currently on 11.16.

  • Thanks for doing this detailed testing, it'll be good information for us.

  • Ran two week test on battery life. Was initially running Glance watch face, at request of Garmin tech support, removed Glance from watch and loaded one of the Garmin provided faces. I then synced the watch with “connect,” the charged the watch to 100%. For a week I monitored battery drain, which went from fully charged to 20% in 13 days. Throughout the period, the watch was synced at least once per day. I didn’t touch Bluetooth connection so the watch and my phone controlled the connection.. On the14th day, I charged the watch from 20 to 100% and changed the watch face back to Glance. That was Wed, 11-20-24. On Tue, the 26th, I still had 53%. When I woke this morning, I had 3% remains. I lost almost 50% overnight. As I type, I’m charging the watch to 100% and have power cycled the watch. I’ll leave the Glance face active and see what happens. I’m current at watch fw/sw version 12.10, which was dropped on 11/25/2024. I have auto update over WiFi turned off. The watch hadn’t been connected to Garmin Express. Could the watch update over Bluetooth? That might explain the sudden battery drop?
For the record, I called Garmin support over two weeks ago. At which time, I was told by the tech that they would monitor my account, evaluate, and get back to me. I’ve heard nothing.

  • Garmin should really put some guidelines or checks in place to control the quality of watchfaces on Connect IQ store. The other day I also bought a watchface that was advertised on Connect IQ main page and battery started to drain ~25% a day. Switched back to another watchface (not Garmin) and it went back to normal again.

  • I agree. I went from a Vivoactive 4s to the Venu 3s this past May. On both watches, Glance is the only watch face I’ve used (after searching around, of course). Never had issue with battery consumption until Garmin pushed 11.14. I’m convinced that Bluetooth connectivity is part of the problem. Some users turn off BT then turn on when they “need” it. That’s not an acceptable workaround. Glance displays a lot of data in real time that probably requires constant connection. But, until 11.14, it wasn’t so severe. I was still getting at least a week between charges, acceptable to me to have the features. Something else is amok. But, Garmin still has a responsibility to inform developers as to what coming.

  • Well…here we go again, with no extra watch faces other than default, and no other apps, my battery lost 30+% over night. Still at 12.10 version. This is Garmin’s problem and they don’t appear to know what to do about it.

  • It really isn't acceptable that users are the beta testers of software updates. I simply expect the watch to work as advertised. 14 days battery life is what I was sold and that is what I expect. 20% battery loss overnight is a joke. The watch is great but it's going back. I am not prepared to problem solved it.

  • Sw 12.10. 20% battery loss overnight. No way to run a business. Garmin needs to act and get this fixed. Reputational damage. Already lost top spot on Strava to apple. I'm not happy being a Beta tester for their SW updates. It's a £400 watch and I expect it to work as advertised. Prepared to give it up.

  • Never had issue with battery consumption until Garmin pushed 11.14.

This. It's still a significant difference between pre 11.14 and 12.10.

  • I got this watch in the summer and it initialy had 14 days battery life. Then it updated and battery life was reduced to 7 days. Tech support sugested turning off Pulse OX, which increased the battery life. Howver turning sensors off is not a solution. It isn't like the Voyager space craft - I shouldn't have to shut the thing down to preserve the battery. Now it looks like I may get 3 days battery without even tracking any activities! It's terrible. Maybe the Epex 2 is a better bet.
