Battery life 11.14

I am on version 11.14 and my buddy is on the previous version (I believe 10.20). We were camping last weekend and had both charged our venu 3’s to 100% before leaving.  When we left on Sunday. I was on 14% and he was on 62%.  We have the same settings and did the same activities.  Is 11.14 that bad on battery?

  • OK thanks, I have always-on enabled and getting -17.5% per day (custom watchface). This is more than before still. Used to be -15% but might be I was using stock watchface. At least its not -25% like it was since 11.11 so I am ok.

  • 17.5 with AOD? Mine drains 25% per day (24h). What are you other settings, gesture to wake on? Do you do GPS activities?

  • Without activities. Yes AOD on. Gesture turned off.

  • 46 hours and an one hour run later my battery went from 64 % to 19 %. Roughly 22,5 % per day. That's just bad. And no, I don't use AOD. SpO2 only during sleep.

  • I’m on 11.16 and without any gps activities, I’m lucky to get 52 hrs on a charge from 100% to low battery (less than 10%). I’ve removed all apps including the Glance watch face that I used on my Vivoactive since 2022 and this Venu 3s since purchasing it from Garmin in May 2024. I’m currently being watched by Garmin (so, they’ve told me). I’m suspect.

  • I may be on to something. At Garmin's request, I switched watch faces from "Glance" to one of the Garmin simpler native faces. I didn't notice any increase in battery life while running on this simplified mode. Then, Monday (11-11-24), I completely removed "Glance" from the watch. At this point, I was left with no 3rd party watch faces. I restarted the watch and charged it to 100%. Since then, in 2 1/2 days, I've expended 17% which is a significant improvement on the abysmal performance of the last couple weeks. Yesterday, I reinstalled the "Glance" face but haven't selected it yet. My intent is to leave the watch as is and see how many days to expend the battery. Then, charge it to 100% and switch over to the "Glance" face and monitor the battery. I'll post another reply.

  • so you're thinking it may be running in the background even though it's not the active watchface

  • I use glance and battery usage is about 0.5% hour. I did have issue with battery drain with  11.14 and am currently on 11.16. In some other tread somebody suggested to go to Save location  app on watch and establish gps connection. Not really sure what exactly fixed my problem.

  • That's a possibility. But I'm hoping that something got corrupted associated with the watch face during the last system update. Right now, the "watch face" is installed but not being used. Assuming battery usage doesn't change (it's still 81% this morning), when I'm through with charge/discharge cycle which is looking good, my plan is to synch, switch to the "Glance" watch face, charge the battery, and see if the discharge rate is affected. I have my fingers crossed since I really like the watch face. It's fairly data rich and may need more interaction with my phone which is draining the battery. I hope not.
