Battery life 11.14

I am on version 11.14 and my buddy is on the previous version (I believe 10.20). We were camping last weekend and had both charged our venu 3’s to 100% before leaving.  When we left on Sunday. I was on 14% and he was on 62%.  We have the same settings and did the same activities.  Is 11.14 that bad on battery?

  • SOLVED!

Discovered via Connect IQ that a third-party watch face I was using had become 'stuck' in an update loop.

I uninstalled that third party watch face (therefore no faces installed), power cycled watch, recharged fully, and finally reinstalled third-party watch face from Connect IQ store.

After tracking a gym activity yesterday afternoon, and sleep activity last night, the battery seems to be back to normal. This morning the battery is at 90% which aligns with experience before the 11.14 update.

  • ThumbsupIf you haven't already, please contact the developer to let them know.

  • Garmin tech support had me uninstall all Connect IQ apps and then started logging my battery use. After I drop from 100% to 10% they will look at the log for issues. But since uninstalling the Connect IQ apps the battery drain issue I was having has gone away. The battery drain issue definitely started with the update to v11.14, but it seems like the problem is some interaction between v11.14 and CIQ apps. One of mine was a watch face, but I had a few others. Hopefully I will be able to reinstall the CIQ apps. But I won't be updating my Venu 3 in the future until waiting a few weeks and checking the forums for issues. This has been very frustrating.

  • yes, same exact thing here, they had me remove all connectIQ apps that I'd installed. So far it's been ~48h since charge and I'm down to 81%, which seems promising and more in line with how the watch was before.

  • How would you prevent a future update? I only ever see options to install now or later, but nothing to skip the installation.

  • I've always clicked "now" so I was assuming I could keep clicking the "later" option indefinitely. But I've never tried it, so I don't know if it will work.

  • New software drains battery ! Fix for this update is needed as soon as possible by Garmin

  • I commented several days ago with about a 2-3% points increase in battery drain per day.  Now this seems to have resolved itself as for the last 3 days, my daily battery drain has returned to normal.

  • Solved also!! Yesterday evening i did a uninstall of all (non-Garmin) apps. I de-installed everything, apps, watch-faces and data-fields. Then i turned off my watch for about 3 minutes. Then i re-installed one watch-face and the battery-monitoring tool. Then i charged to 85%. End of charging was around 9pm. In the morning at 7am, battery dropped only 3%!!. Now after 18 hours, battery dropped 6%. Discharge over a whole day is now estimated within 8-11%. Thanks Jarrad!

/Edit: discharge is now around 8-9% per day. Last 74 hours drain was 26% including 30mins run (gps). Perfect!

/Edit: Above went only ok for about a week. Then i did a short run (approx. 5 mile) with GPS AND MP3 > problem was back. A restart (power down) wasn't enough this time.Discharge raised again from approx. 9% to 15% per day.

/Edit: last thursday i installed version 11.16. In the evening then i charged to 80%. Now on monday morning, battery is at 43%. I did a run and a bike ride with the use of GPS. Battery discharge seems normal again (between 9-11% per day). Nightly discharge is about 2-3%. I partly reinstalled the programs which i had before. Problem seems solved (in my case). I did not use MP3 this time.

  • It doesn't because it auto updates at some point.
