Any reports of screen burn in with the Venu 3?

I purchased the original Venu (the first version) soon after it released and after about a year the OLED screen started showing severe permanent burn in. There is a forum post here with hundreds of reports of people having the same issue. Even Garmin's replacements showed the same symptoms after some months, so it essentially affected all the Venu "1" line.

I also had a FitBit Versa that just died due to water ingress (Fitbits are terrible in that regard) so I really need a new smartwatch.

How's the Venu 3 when it comes to OLED screen burn-in and if someone made the jump from a Venu 1, how does it compare?

  • I've had the original Venu, Venu 2, Venu 2 Plus, and Venu 3. I haven't seen burn-in on any of them and I use always-on display.

  • I had screen burns on Venu 1 after a 2 years. They became very visible after another year. I survived with that waiting for improved version of Venu. I’ve just received V3 and I hope the screen burns will not appear as quick as for V1.

  • I'm coming from the Venu 1 and had screen burn-in after a year I think.

My Venu 3 from September 2023 does not show any signs of burn-in yet, although I'm not using AOD (always on display) anymore like I did on the Venu 1.

Especially AOD during workouts seem to have done most of the damage back then.

I thought that the screen burn-in issues have been fixed since the Venu 2 series, but you should search for that on Reddit and such.My wife is so far without any issues using the Venu 2s for about 2.5 years, without AOD.

Water hasn't been an issue on any of our venu's either in the sea/swimming pool/shower.

  • I think (?) Garmin changed their developer app to require moving of pixels, etc. after the Venu 2 came out meaning the risk of burn-in is minimal (eliminated?) when using AOD with a newer watch. I have always used it but I also have quite a few faces and rotate through them daily so I am not really a good test case.

  • That shouldn't have mattered for me with the Venu 1. I've always used a watchface that moved around the whole time during AOD, the popular Crystal watchface.

As I've mentioned the main burn-in was caused during workouts and the screen that was shown during those times were from Garmin themselves.
