Google Text Messages (RCS) - No Notifications

The latest version of Google Messages (the SMS and RCS app) does not give any notifications on my Venu 3.  Had the same problem on my Vivoactive 4.  Is there a fix or work around?  I have a feeling it's due to the new security features tied to RCS messaging, and the app not allowing third-party apps to access anything.

Phone - Pixel 7

Thanks

  • You'll want to ensure the Notification settings are set properly as mentioned in this FAQ: How Do I Set Up Which Notifications Display on My Garmin Device?

Additionally, you'll want to check Notification Access in the Settings. This can be a little tricky to locate and depends on the android version and the phone model. However, you may be able to find it by following these steps: Settings > Advanced > Apps & Notifications > Special App Access > Notification Access. Once this is selected make sure Garmin Connect is listed and enabled.

If you continue to experience this disruption, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team.

  • same issue. I receive no notification on my Venu 3 from Goole Messages.

    Samsung S23 Ultra

  • I also have the same issue. I have tried the fix with no results

  • The fix posted above worked for me.  When Google Messages updated, I think it replaced the app with a new version and it wasn't selected in the settings for which apps would give notifications.  No issues since, but it was tricky to find

  • I had the same problem with my new pixel 9.  It wouldn't send notifications to my Fenix 6 or Edge 830.  The answer from Garmin-Inder fixed the problem.  I now receive texts and calendar notifications.

  • Same issue. Just got mine.

I've done everything listed here (as well as others online).

All notifications are enabled with special access. I've even deleted the data on my watch and repaired it with my phone.

No luck. This is very annoying. I can't even see my wife:s texts on my phone. I am considering returning the device as a result.

    Any other solutions?

  • hello, I have the same problem. I was because of that and because I had the opportunity to switch to a Google Pixel Watch on which I never had a notification problem. But the Garmin health tracking is so much better plus the battery life that I went back to my Venu Sq. So even after more than a year I realize that the problem is still there. I talked about it with friends and they all told me that they wanted to continue using their Garmin but that now they went through the WhatsApp application to manage messages like that no more problem. But hey it's not up to the end user to solve a Dev problem at Garmin... Waiting for a solution from you. Sorry for my English I'm French

  • The Google Text Messages app that was installed in the latest Android updates is a separate app from the old messaging method. As such you will have to review the app permissions. The first thing I would check - In the Garmin Connect App, choose  More > Settings > Notifications > Smart Notifications. Scroll down the list of apps and make sure the new Messages app is selected (On my Android I just enabled all of the messages apps). You may also have to review the permissions on the new app, however all I had to do was enable it.
