Venu 3 Not Counting Active Calories for Steps Unless Heart Rate is 90 or Above

I upgraded to the Venu 3 from the Venu Sq2 and I barely get credit for 300 calories from 15,000 steps.  I compared the calorie graph on my watch to the heart rate graph and it looks like it's only giving me active calories for steps if my heart rate is 90 or above. My resting heart rate is 52 and my heart rate for normal walking is about 75. I didn't have this problem with the Venu Sq2.

  • Calories are not based on steps, they are based on the heart rate. Double check that all of the following parameters are still accurate: body weight, height, age, gender, Resting HR, Max HR, LTHR. Also, 7-day Average Resting HR, and the Max HR.

  • Every setting is still accurate. Same settings as the old watch.  Max HR 176, resting 50, 7 day resting 51.

My heart rates were similar on the old watch and it counted more calories.  The Venu 3 seems to consider me sedentary anytime my HR is under 90 and I only average 75 when doing non exercise activities. It sends me alerts that it's time to get up and get active when I'm already up and cooking or doing dishes.

I don't get why there should be a difference in the way the Venu 3 and Sq2 count calories with the same settings and heart rates.

Online calculators say I should get 400 something calories for 10,000 steps and that's what the Sq2 used to give me.  You can't tell me that 10,000 steps at work with an average HR 24-25 above my resting while walking, bending, and lifting only burns160 calories.

  • Thank you for your post. Please review this FAQ Burned Calories Calculated on My Garmin Device Are Wrong

As mentioned you'll want to check the parameters in your user profile. Additionally, you will want to ensure the heart rate data recorded by your watch is accurate. The above FAQ will guide you if it does seem to be inaccurate. However, if this continues to be a disruption beyond the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the above FAQ, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team to look into this with you.

  • Same thing happens to me...max heart rate 179 rest heart rate 45...I am assigned active calories only if I exceed 90 heartbeats (when I enter zone 1) at the end of the day the calories burned are ridiculous
  • You can manually edit your heart rate zones.  Set the bottom of zone 1 to a HR of 53 and get tons of activity minutes. But that's kinda like cheating.

How the Venu 2 recorded data vs the Venu 3 is a little bit of apples to oranges.  Garmin decided to replace the 2 with the 3, I'm certain that the 3 is a better and more accurate product.

  • Certain that the 3 is more accurate how? I'm losing eating 2,700 a day and the 3 has me burning 2,600 or less.

  • Max HR is too high for walking. 176 is okay for running but for walking you should reduce to your average walking Max HR. You have an option to set different max HR for walking, running and bicycling.

Lover max HR will give you more activity minutes but it can make higher your stress levels and lower body battery level!

You can do it in Garmin connect in watch settings f user profile .
