My wife‘s new Venu 3s prompted during the setup (in Garmin Connect) to set up a WLAN connection.

What gives?

You can download watch updates and sync to Connect via WiFi/WLAN. OS updates are faster over WLAN. It's not required, but it's useful.

Thanks, I was searching the German language manual for WLAN, because I live in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, and nobody says Wi-Fi here. People only talk about WLAN. The manual only talks about using it for music. Is there any other reason to give the smartwatch WLAN acccess? Isn‘t it a security risk? Doesn‘t it require extra battery power?
