Garmin Connect vs Garmin Golf apps for Venu 3 - not understanding what is required

In the user manual, it says that you must download the Garmin Golf app to play golf.

Both the Garmin Connect and Garmin Golf apps have options to download courses.  This is so that if you had no signal, you could download in advance.

I am not understanding which of these two apps is used to get the courses over to the Venu 3.

I constantly get the course failed to download message, and then flip between apps, trying again on the watch, and then it eventually succeeds.

Does anyone know which of these apps should be used to pre-download the courses?  My idea was to download all the nearby courses in advance so that when I pressed play golf on my watch, I would quickly be ready to go.

  • Specifically with the Venu 3, the watch does not come with preinstalled golf course mapping. The golf courses must be downloaded through the Garmin Connect mobile app with the watch synced and the Garmin Connect mobile app running in the background on your smartphone when starting the golf app to play.

The Garmin Golf app is only needed for the Venu 3 to view synced scorecards from the watch if you are keeping score during the round. The downloaded golf courses section of the Garmin Golf app is not applicable to the Venu 3.

  • Your answer isn't accurate. My watch  (v15. 01) requires me to open the garmin golf app before it will download a course. That app is otherwise useless.

But why, if I played a course yesterday, does my watch still need to download it from Garmin Golf app again today?

The phone has masses of spare memory and it has already got the golf course downloaded. It should be bale to retain a small number of courses so I don't have to take my phone with me.

Uldates to golf courses are extremely rare, so it isn't necessary to even check for changes.

If this is not on the future planes for this watch series, please could you put it forwards as a suggestion. It would speed up starting a round and remove once annoyance with the watch.

  • I'm still not clear on the relationship between Garmin Connect, Garmin Golf, and the golf app on the watch is.  Both Garmin Connect and Garmin Golf have the option to download courses, but neither of those see to have any effect on the watch, so as far as I'm concerned, both of those options are useless.  Last year when I was using the watch, it could remember a few courses, so I didn't have to re-download every time I played my home course.  Now I always have to download it.  I would very much appreciate being able to roll the watch's firmware back to 8 months ago.
