Is there a way to get an IMMEDIATE Heart Rate Alert with a widget or feature within the Venu 3s?

I bought this watch after doing so much research on all the fitness watches out there on the market for best watch for heart rate with alert options… and so far I am so disappointed. I actually wanted to return it but apparently you have to realize your issues with it within less than 30 days to return. I have a medical condition called POTS and I wanted a watch that could, A) alert me the exact moment my heart rate goes above my set high HR and, B) happens whether inactive or active and C) whether my “activity” is selected as a workout or if I’m just wearing it around the house while cleaning.

After calling Garmin about this issue and returning possibilities (cause it also constantly burns me and is beyond inaccurate in other ways too), I was informed it will ONLY alert of the high HR if inactive for 10 minutes with the high heart rate. This absolutely defeated the literal entire purpose of the watch for me.

HELP! Is there a widget that has been created to do this at least? I know the watch doesn’t do immediate alert, but I wondered if maybe someone has (or could) create an app/widget that could?

  • Hi, I have a heart condition similar to pots, and there’s an app in the store you can maybe try? It’s called Long covid pacing app or something like that.

I don’t use the app, so I can’t comment on that, but what I do to get HR alerts in the exact moment is this:

In the beginning I’ve tracked my house chores, stressful phone calls, garden work etc as an activity (yoga or cardio, cardio when doing heavy housework or garden work for example). In the activity settings you can set your HR alarm for a low HR and high HR and you can use a lower HR than 100 in an activity. So when you set your alarm to 95 then your watch will buzz your wrist when your HR goes higher than 95, without delay. And it also buzzes your wrist when it drops below the 95 HR again. I have set different alarms in different activities. So for walking, when I actually use it for real walks, I have set it to 130. And for cardio, which I use for house chores, I have set it to 120 etc. But I use it for this purpose less now I recognise the symptoms I get when my HR goes too high too fast.

You can delete the ‘activities’ when you’re done. Or you can sync them to connect and what I do then is: I change the workout title from ‘cardio’ to my highest HR and the activity I really did. So it looks like this then: H157, walking chairs and vacuuming the house. or: H145, garden work.

I hope it makes sense! For me it’s very useful and the battery is still very decent with the constant ‘activity’ tracking I did in the first weeks!

  • While I don't have an answer for you, I too agree that it really is pointless to have an alert AFTER 10 minutes of inactivity. The logic may be that showing an alert while active is pointless due to heart rate fluctuations while exercising, but that logic is flawed. I have what's called V-Tach and need a "right now" high alert notification.

  • You can get those immediate alerts when using the app I wrote about here. Or when running an activity. Only your battery will drain much faster then, when you run an activity the whole day.

For me the high HR alarm comes immediately when I’m for example cooking and it goes above 100. So I’m not very active for 10 minutes (cooking and moving around in my tiny kitchen) and my heart rate is below 100 and then goes higher than 100 and then I get an immediate hr alarm. Also when im driving it happens sometimes. So it’s not like it only alerts you when You are sitting completely still on the couch for over ten minutes.

I searched for this function when I was deciding which watch to buy and I couldn’t find one smartwatch that gives an immediate high hr alert.. (outside of an activity). So that’s why I chose this watch, it has good battery life so I can run activities a lot when I want to, for the alerts.

  • Esther, I'm a bit confused. You say that there's an app named "long covid p" but you don't use it. Yet, you are getting alerts based on your custom settings for high heart rate in real 'activity' time? I have not yet looked for this app.

  • Yes I use yoga and cardio activities when i just use tthe watch to get immediate HR alerts during house chores or garden work.

When I’m not running an activity but I’m cooking or driving, I do get the alerts when my hr goes higher than 100. Those are the ‘abnormal heart rate detected’ alerts you get when you’re ‘inactive’ for 10 minutes or longer. So I get those too when I’m not completely inactive.

and that app is an app I saw that people with long COVID use for ‘pacing’, so they use the hr alarms to pace themselves. I haven’t used that app, because I don’t need it as the normal activities I run for hr alerts are enough.

The custom hr alarm settings in activities are different than the ‘abormal heart rate’ alerts the watch gives when your ‘inactive. The alarms in activities you can also set to 95 or 90 or even lower, while the abnormal HR alarm from the watch only goes as low as 100. That’s why there’s that long covid app, I think. When pacing, people want an alert when their  heart rate is 90 for example..
