9.24 update, still no voice assistant

I do realize that there are more threads about this issue, but usually there's no follow up from support in them, although people still report this problem. So I'm starting a new one.

I have no working Google Assistant whatsoever. When activating it on my Venu 3, the Google Assistant opens on my phone and listens to my voice on the phone. But the Venu 3 just says "connecting to voice assistant" and after a while fails. Not just sometimes, every time.

I've already removed the Venu 3 from Android paired devices and Garmin Connect and set everything up as new. No change.

If you advertise a product with a feature, it should work, Garmin. Get to it!

  • Sorry to hear about this. There are a couple of things to check. First, please ensure your phone is compatible and is not listed on this list:  Phone Incompatibility List for Voice Assistant Watches. Also, if your phone is a Oneplus model, you will want to contact the phone manfucturer to bring this to their attention.

Secondly, please ensure you've followed all steps as mentioned here: Setting Up Voice Assistant on Your Garmin Watch

If you have verified everything in both FAQ's and still continue to experience this disruption, please reply back with the following:

    • Which smartphone are you using?
    • What is the OS version of your smartphone?
    • What is the Software version on your watch? (Menu > Settings > System > About)
    • What is the Connect app version? (More > Settings > Version)
    • What is the Google app version ( You will go to Settings -> Google -> Settings for Google apps ->Search, Assistant & Voice -> About -> Version.)
    • Do we have permission to email you?
    • Do we have permission to access your Connect account?
    • What country are you based in?
  • Hi,

My phone is not on the list and I've gone through all the steps.

It is a Oneplus 11 running Android 14. But is was the same on Android 13.

    Venu 3 software version 9.24.

    Connect app is version 4.76.

    Google app version is 15.10.44.28.arm64

Yes, you may e-mail me and access my connect account.

    I'm in the Netherlands.

    Thanks.

  • I apologize in my previous response; I did forget to mention that OnePlus manufacturer will need to be contacted to bring this to their attention. This report seems to be related to phones specifically.

  • Hello,

I've read that advice earlier. As a single Oneplus customer, I have no way to get anything done by a company as big as theirs.

Moreover, from a technical point of view, it's nonsense. I have multiple sets of wireless ear buds from different brands: JBL, Jabra, Oneplus, Adidas. They all work perfectly with my Oneplus phone. They all connect to the Google Assistant just fine and give me spoken reactions.

If these bluetooth connected devices can do it, so can a bluetooth connected watch. You just need to get to work instead of blaming another party.

Sorry if I come across rude, but your stance is unbearable. Fix it.

    Best regards, Wouter

  • Garmin is simply pathetic regarding the issue with OnePlus, it's not even a specific OP device, it's across all of their phones (I have OP 10 pro and the behavior is identical).

I don't understand why Garmin can't contact OP or Google and resolve the issue.

The customer has no chance to make one of the manufacturers to fix this.

Hiding behind irrelevant "compatible  devices list" is a poor answer especially when the watch is advertised with this certain capability.

  • Thanks, but I don't think we need to look for extenal workaround. Garmin can contact OP & Goole and fix this.

This is not a solution and if Garmin is advertising the device with certain capablities I expect them to make it work.

  • Agreed but based on what I have seen I have no expectations that will happen.

  • Totally agree with you.

Mine had been working flawlessly for 3 months and then in october they changed something and it never worked again.

I kept if for a few months in the hope Garmin would fix the issue but they blame OnePlus and say there's nothing they can do.

Needless to say, I'm angry at the way Garmin has handled this issue.

  • If you look, there are overall problems with Chinese phones. Garmin always says there is a fault with the phone. At the same time, other watch manufacturers (Samsung, Amazfit, etc.) can handle it.

On my Honor 70 and 90, other watches, bracelets not any problems, everything worked.

    1. I thought if I got a Garmin watch I would move on. But instead I fell into a pit of trouble.
