Anyone else having battery drain after the latest 9.24 update?

I purchased my Venu 3s about a month ago and have been very happy with it until the 9.24 update.  My battery life was 18-20% per day consistently with all features turned on.  After the 9.24 update it's been 33-35% per day.  I unplugged it from the charger this morning at 5:00 am and didn't put it on or do anything with it.  Checked it at 9:00 am and it had dropped 9% with no use. 

My normal use is usually from 5:30 am to 9:30 pm so I was seeing a little over 1% per hour and I was expected to get a full 5 days out of it.  I've owned many Garmin watches and never had a problem like this.  Anyone else seeing this issue after updating to 9.24?  I fully feel like this is software issue since it was fine before the update.

Anyone have any suggestions to fix it if you found a solution?

  • Yes. I have installed the latest firmware (9.24) yesterday. Before the average battery drain on 24h was about 10-12%, now the battery drain is between 20-25% a day.

  • How were you getting such low battery usage before the update?  Is that with everything turned on?

  • I actually contacted Garmin support after I posted this and they gave me the following directions:

    This procedure will NOT reset your watch and no settings should be lost.

    1. Plug the device into a computer’s USB port using the charging cable.
    2. Open Garmin Express and select the device. Sync to make sure there are no updates available.
    3. Press and hold the top button for 45+ seconds until the screen goes completely blank while connected to Garmin Express.
    4. Once blank, release the button and allow the computer to power it back on. If it doesn't power back on, you may need to unplug the USB end and plug it back into the computer to power the device back on.
    5. Charge the watch back to 100%.

    My battery appears to be back to normal now after 5 hours of use.   I will continue to monitor it over the weekend and post back if I continue to have issues but this may be the fix for me.

  • Just checking back in after two days to report that my battery life is still good.  The directions I listed were definitely the fix for me.

  • I have the same issue after the last update.

    Usually with my settings i get 12d of battery life, now after the update i got left 15% after just 3.5 days. There is no option to rollbakc

    Idk what they do but this is really stupid

  • Try the fix that I suggested.  I knew within 4 hours or so that my battery life was back to normal.  Also, how are you getting 12 days out of the Venu 3s?  Do you have all the sensors turned off and no notifications or something?  I have everything turned on and I'm looking at 4.5 to 5 days which is what most reviews say I will get.

  • Hi, i installed garmin expres and just tried your fix, waiting for the watch to fully charge now.

    I usually just have notifications from important apps, fb messenger, whatsapp and s few others.

    For sensors i only have pulse oxygen measurement during night.

    I also use gps from time to time

  • I have my venu 3 just for two weeks, so I started with the 9.24. But so far it lasts 3-4 days (with AOD on), without noticeable GPS usage.  I'm considering to repeat the procedure you have described above. Could you please clarify if this will reset the watch or not?

    It does not factory reset the watch.  None of my settings were lost when I performed the procedure.

    I've addressed your question in my previous post so others will also know that it doesn't reset the watch.
