Only 2 days for AOD

Garmin claims the watch should get up to 5 days with always on display. However, the watch only predicts 2 days of AOD when starting at 100% charge. I have Pulse Ox turned off, timeout set to short, wifi uploads turned off, I have a built-in watch face set, and it still predicts 2 days. How can I increase the number of days for AOD? I contacted support and followed their advice but I've had no luck. I should mention, I'm trying to get more days without turning on battery saver mode. Also, I'm on 8.25

  • But what about activities? Do you track any or have Auto activity turned on? Garmin claims 5 days with AOD on, but with no activities done and with the sleep schedule turned on (I guess 8 hours of sleep). More factors include brightness and the number of hours spent outside (Auto brightness will increase the screen brightness outside, resulting in a higher drain).

  • I haven’t tracked any activities last week as I’ve been busy with school. Speak of school, that means I’ve been inside for most of the day and so I have auto brightness turned on and it seems to be at half brightness. I have Move IQ turned on but turning it off didn’t affect the battery. Also sleep schedule is turned on.

  • Okay. Maybe you can try lowering the brightness. My brightness is set at 20% (I have turned off auto-brightness as it is too bright for me). Just give it a try with that setting for a day and see if things improve. I am not sure if 50% brightness is good or bad, but having it at 50% for most of the time seems a little too much for me (excluding really bright outdoor days and your watch also could pump up more brightness indoors on such days). It is just a suggestion, if you have time, do try it.

My settings are (I have the Venu 3):
Brightness at 20% (auto brightness OFF); AOD is off; Glance is off (sometimes when I work it is distracting, I don't want to see the time or any notifications); Notifications arrive when Bluetooth is ON (for some apps only); Pulse Ox set to on-demand; Sleep schedule turned on, watch goes to redshift mode; watch goes to redshift mode during activities; custom watch face; no music listening from watch; with all these settings and some activities, I get like 8-9 days of battery life.

In my opinion screen brightness seems to be the biggest issue for you. Try reducing that and experiment again. Btw, you have the Venu 3 or Venu 3s?

  • Okay, I'll try that out. I have a Venu 3s

  • Are you gong by what the watch predicts (you implied this) or what you experienced? You should test it yourself. I can get about four days with AOD, a 40 minute GPS activity every day, and other exercise activities about three days per week. I use auto-brightness and have some notifications sent to the watch. I have a scheduled sleep time of about 6.5 hours for which the screen is off.

Different watch faces affect battery life, so try a few different faces.

  • Great. You can try that and update it here. I never use AOD so I cannot comment on my battery life for AOD. But as mentioned in my previous comment, I get 8-9 days of battery life with activities using those settings. I am kind of happy with that.
