Voice assistant not working on venu 3

I bought a venu 3 today and I cannot get the voice assistant working. It says "connecting" and eventually "no connection ". I read a couple of threads with the same problem but no one has a solution. I tried repairing and resetting the watch but it makes no difference. My phone is a OnePlus Nord 2T. Does anyone have a working solution?

Edit: in the Bluetooth menu the watch is called "watch" not venu 3. I only saw the name venu 3 once in my attempts to fix the voice assistant problem

  • Makes me feel like I paid for functionality that I was promised but am not getting.

  • Just want to add something

Recently got "Setup your garmin device for google assistant" through Garmin connect ,  I've review and completed the steps before , but I decided to review at again.

There's a part when you need to define phone auto unlock (Security -> Extend unlock  Android 14) and add your watch.

Even though I did it before , I found that somehow my watch was deleted from the list , I've re-added it and viola ! assistant now work 9/10 of the times (vs 60% fail rate)

  • Voice Assistant generally works with my Pixel 7, but I notice after an overnight sleep at marginal BT distance that Voice fails with "no connection".  When back with my phone, the watch is actually connected but the phone BT drop-down bubble shows "Bluetooth".  I have the Power Off and Restart the Venu 3 for the phone to then show "UAT-4260" which corrects the problem.  [For short times away from the phone, Bluetooth recovers "UAT-4260" on its own.  In any case, an extended Unlock would enable me to send texts from the Venu 3, as I can't do that with the phone locked. Thanks.

That setting is about defining a device that is allowed to unlock the phone, right? That implies that you could use the assistant when you manually unlocked your phone and couldn't when it was locked. Is that right? Or does that setting also fix the problem with an already unlocked device?

In my case, I can't use the assistant no matter if my phone is locked or unlocked.

  • When my phone is locked Voice Assistant via the watch works for things like "What is the weather", but not for "Send a text to..."  If I say "Sent a text" it actually responds back telling me to unlock my phone.  My real issue is the apparent change in the Watch to Phone BT status after an overnight sleep which completely disables the voice assistant and the Venu 3 Phone App dialpad.  Related to "locked or unlock"?  I don't know.

  • I have my phone all setup correctly just like they tell you to do here and it still doesn't work.  Correction, if I reboot either my phone or my watch it will work the first time I try and then never again unless I reboot one of them again.  When I got my watch last October it worked good consistently but a couple of months ago it quit.  I feel ripped off for spending $450 and not getting the functionality promised.  Garmin blames Google and will tell you to communicate with them, its their issue.

  • When  Voice Assistant doesn't work does the watch come back with "no connection" or simply no response?  Early on, with the Alexa app on my Google phone, it would pop up and then not activate.  I had to explicitly make Google my default assistant.  Also, I've heard that Google Gemini as the assistant doesn't work. Not sure if this has been corrected.

Also open the Venu 3 Phone App to see if the dialpad icon is active or is dimmed with a slash across it.  This indicates a change in the Bluetooth connection properties which also takes out the Voice Assistant capability.  If this is also happening, it indicates that the problem is not just the voice assistant.  This might help Garmin support if they are listening.  In any case, this condition corrects for me with a Venu 3 power off then restart.

  • I have a Venu 2 Plus and use a OnePlus 12. The Google Assistant launches on the phone (when I push the middle watch button) but does not display the voice activation triangle icon on the watch. Hence, the feature does not work as it's supposed to. HOWEVER, it did work perfectly for one full day about one week ago. It caught me by surprise and I tested it successfully a few times. To confirm it was indeed now working perfectly, I restarted my phone and Bam!, it stopped working again and has not worked since. The moral of the story is.... Google Assistant triggered from a Venu 2 Plus DOES WORK on a OnePlus 12 device. HOWEVER, we don't know why or what combination of settings/conditions need to be applied for it to be permanent. UGH!

  • Obviously, it doesn't matter whether it's a OnePlus or a Pixel. I have a Pixel 8 Pro and just got my Venu 3 today. It didn't take me long to get here. I have another 15 days for return. If this isn't solved, it goes back.

    observations:

I reboot my phone and it assistant works once with very low volume.

It doesn't matter what I do with the volume on my phone, it stays low

Using the assistant beyond the first time, leads to no response. The phone acts like it's in listening mode but it doesn't trigger anything.

Since this is the first time I install the Garmin Connect app, there is no way for me to go back with updates.

    very frustrating.
