Voice assistant not working on venu 3

I bought a venu 3 today and I cannot get the voice assistant working. It says "connecting" and eventually "no connection ". I read a couple of threads with the same problem but no one has a solution. I tried repairing and resetting the watch but it makes no difference. My phone is a OnePlus Nord 2T. Does anyone have a working solution?

Edit: in the Bluetooth menu the watch is called "watch" not venu 3. I only saw the name venu 3 once in my attempts to fix the voice assistant problem

  • Bluetooth Ensure your phone and watch are connected via Bluetooth. App Updates Make sure both the Garmin app and watch software are updated. Settings  Check if voice assistant is enabled on your Venu 3 and phone.

  • What I found at first after a phone [Pixel 7] and watch reboot and good BT connection was that the Watch was triggering my Alexa app rather than Google.  Once I made Google specifically the default, it would work for a while.  Next came frequent failures with the watch saying "No Phone Connection".  However, the was a connection as the data synched fine.  This issue, I believe, is the switching between Bluetooth Low Energy mode and back to Active mode.  It is the Active mode that is required for the Voice Assistant [and for the Venu 3 Phone app Dial Pad] to function.  On the Pixel phone, the top notification line shows the BT logo only in Active mode.   If the watch is away from my phone at marginal BT range, like overnight, it sometimes does not re=establish active mode.  I see this by the absence of the BT logo on my Phone.  This sometimes recovers in short order, but Power Off and Restart on the watch restores the BT logo, restores the name "Venu 3" and makes the Voice Assistant work again.

  • It seems that the assistants aren't working on ANY android phones. It doesn't work on my Pixel 4a, and I just purchased a Samsung s24, and there are also posts complaining of it not working on that phone either. Others have said it was working on Venu 2 pro, and then it just stopped working. Sounds like an update broke it. What's the status of fixing this? It seems it's been an issue for over a year now.

  • yeah, I just checked again and this functionality is still advertised. I think it's time to report this and ensure they take that down from their ads. It's certainly misleading for potential buyers. I bought this because I wanted the health and exercise features PLUS the smarts. I am not getting the smarts - very frustrating.

  • Sounds like a class action lawsuit... :-p

  • I was able to get Bixby working on the watch. There is a glitch when you tell it to do a task, then do another shortly after. It says can't connect. But, generally it works, but it needs optimization. A bit clunky. I have another issue that text messages often won't delete when deleted.

  • What is going on.. that's few months already. No assistant with Google 8 pro.

  • Welcome to Garmin. A lot of problems for a lot of money Slight smile

If they can't fix it, they should refund the money.

  • I wonder why websites like https://www.wareable.com/ for example haven't picked up this story or issue and run a story on it via their reporting?  You would think they would run a story that promised functionality by Garmin is not working and numerous people can't all be wrong?

  • Venu 2 Plus here. The assistant magically started working again just today. Will see how it long it lasts for. The assistant animation showing the mic and animated triangle is active. The phone lights up also. However, the answer is being read from the phone, not the watch. Strange.
