Can't transfer a custom workout to my venu 3s. Why?

I made a custom workout in my app but when I wanted to transfer it to my watch, it said my device wasn't compatible. This wouldn't be quite so annoying if the workout could be activated in the app anyway and the watch merely tracking metrics and other activity data. Will this be fixed?

  • If Garmin Connect tells you that the workout is not compatible with your watch, then perhaps the workout is not compatible with your watch. Verify the type of workout against this list:

  • I don't know if you're meaning to be sarcastic, but it sounds that way. I am asking if Garmin can/will fix this issue. Touting one may add custom workouts then not supporting it isn't useful. I didn't have that list at hand, so thanks. It doesn't help me solve the issue other than to say "too bad for you and your watch". Perhaps the forum isn't where my question should go. Maybe it's a customer support question instead.

  • I don't know if you're meaning to be sarcastic,

That was not my intention. I apologize if it sounded that way.

I am asking if Garmin can/will fix this issue.

This is not an issue to be fixed, because Garmin made this limiation on purpose. From a technical perspective Garmin could of course do something about it, but it is very unlikely that they ever will, for non-technical reasons.

Perhaps the forum isn't where my question should go.

If you mean the "Will this be fixed?" question, then indeed, this is not the right place to ask, although I believe you know the answer by now.

Maybe it's a customer support question instead.

By all means, please feel free to try, but I bet they won't tell you anything beyond what the error message (and the aforementioned support site) already tells you.

  • Thank you for posting in the Forums. As mentioned currently the watch is working as designed. This watch is not compatible with being able to upload custom workouts. However, this is a great suggestion! Be sure to submit it by using our Ideas Portal

For any addtional questions regarding this, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team.

  • I have the answer now. I had no idea when I bought and received a $600 watch that it would be limited like that. I didn't want the much clunkier (and more masculine) models, but I didn't expect a feature like that to be excluded from the Venu 3S. Honestly, I'm a bit turned off by the "watches for women" marketing that focuses on stress, meditation, and yoga. I'm a professional in the military. I want a classy watch that tracks a tough workout. I am doing a workout program created by our fitness teams, so I wanted to track that rather than the built in options. I've submitted a suggestion to their idea link.

Thanks for your clarification, tmk2 Blush

I don't know what type of workout you do specifically, so not sure if this is right for you, but instead of a "Custom" workout you might want to try a "HIIT", "Strength" or "Cardio" workout. These are compatible with the venu 3.

  • I think I found the solution in a related forum. I made a custom HIIT because I really only needed the interval timer because the workouts are from the military's fitness people. But if I make it as a cardio workout and select the exercises from the Garmin bank (or the one that is the closest approximation to the one I'm doing) I can choose time instead of rep and it is compatible. Face palm

That would have been good to know in advance, eh? Thanks for your continued engagement and help, tmk2
