Why is there no disable Wi-Fi feature or airplane mode?

Dear Garmin,

This should be standard functionality on any smartwatch / health wearable 1. For health reasons and reducing exposure to RF frequency during sleep 2. For optimisation of battery life.

Please could you add this simple feature request to your update roadmap. The on/off function exists as it is toggled during battery saver mode, so simply present the option to the user. I do not wish to use battery saver mode as I wish to keep my HR monitoring and pulse OX tracking etc.

User should have the ability to develop a custom battery / power profile of features they do/do not want tor value.

Thanks

  • Hello

How can I disable the wifi / wifi on the Venu 3?
It seems to be either permanently on or it activates automatically when needed.
Can it be turned off, like Bluetooth?

    Thanks

  • It *seems* like its activated automatically when needed. At the point where 'seilogramp' suggests there is an option named Off, is just an option to connect or disconnect from networks.  Nothing in Garmin Express or on Watch as far as I could tell. Bluetooth is designed to connect and disconnect quickly and easily, WiFi not so much. So it likely is always on and scanning/connected.

  • Hi I would also like this feature to be available, this is a very standard feature that we should be able to turn on and off. It is really surprising that this feature is not available on Venu3 as it is available on most other Garmin watches. 1 - I dont want bluetooth and wifi buzzing next to my head whilst I sleep. 2 - it is useful for battery optimisation. I use my device primarily as a health wearable and only sync to phone once in a while I have absolutely not care for notifications or making calls etc. Garmin can you look into this please?

  • You have control over the WiFi.  It's not always on.  Just when you activate a function that could use it.  Look in connectivity to turn off auto upload and forget the WiFi network.

There is a tremendous amount of background radiation around all of us.  I doubt your watch makes enough rf to be statistically relevant.

The signal frequencies and strength are listed in the manual.  Do these values exceed the limits you have set for yourself?

  • Do you work for Garmin or something. Why do you keep replying to all of my posts with a contrarian viewpoint. It makes no sense not to present the WiFi off feature to a user when the I/O switch already exists in the code on the device. Particularly when it is present for all other Garmin devices. I have been a Garmin device user for over 10 years. This is a feature I expect. Especially on a £450 device.

  • No.

Your argument doesn't make sense.  There is a way, just isn't labeled as you demand.

  • His problems are worse than flying under the radar. He will get banned eventually. He is a troll who can't troll openly. He is a 'closeted troll'. Poor thing.

So back to the topic at hand : why is the device unable to turn Wifi off? Will it be included in an update if there is no reason? Wifi drains battery much quicker than Bluetooth does...

    Don't get involved please troll.

  • It *seems* like its activated automatically when needed.

How Often Do Fitness Devices Emit a Wi-Fi Signal?

    I don't own a Venu 3. On my watch I can turn off Wi-Fi.

It can be done on the newer Forerunner, Fenix, & epix watches, as they have a more granular "Power Manager" feature. As far as I can tell, this cannot be done on any of the watches in the "Health & Wellness" category, like the Venu 3. There is "Battery Saver," but it does not include the "Wi-Fi Status off" option.

As  mentioned, turning off auto upload prevents the "every-5-minute check" for wi-fi.
