Problems with Venu 3

So I got Venu 3 as a Christmas gift. I run and ride in-lines and all I wanted was something lightweight to listen music and audiobooks with.

My wife got me Venu 3 with a vast array of sport functions but I can't for the life of me get it play nice with Spotify, the only thing I really wanted. Sometimes it syncs my playlists, sometimes it doesn't ("sync failed"). And even when it does I can't play anything, the buttons are greyed out, nothing works. And yes, my bluetooth headphones are connected and synced.

Plus the watches refuse to download any updates. The manual says the Garmin Connect app will download updates automatically but I've had the watches for a few days now and the SW version still shows as 5.37, even though the latest update is supposed to be 8.25.

Can any of this be easily fixed or do I really have to return my gift?

Also - and a Garmin forum is probably not a great place to ask this, but hey - any tips for alternatives? Something that's proven to work well with Spotify? I don't even need a million training and monitoring features, I really just need a wearable music player. Thanks!

  • Sometimes there is a delay in updates getting sent from the Garmin Connect app.. I would try to update on the watch itself via wifi.  If that is not setup yet, it also might be affecting the Spotify syncing too.

    Besides what Former Member mentioned, you might also try connecting the Venu 3 to a computer and sync using Garmin Express. Sometimes this will push a stubborn update.

  • Regarding the update, as others have mentioned, getting updates over Bluetooth takes a lot of time and I would not recommend it unless you have no other option. The best way is to install Garmin Express on your laptop and it will push the update in a few minutes (it will ask you on-screen if you want to install the update). Unplug your watch once it reaches sufficient charge and the update will install. About Spotify, I have no idea, I don't use that, so I cannot help. But yes, you need a Wi-Fi connection for setting up music. 

  • Thanks for the tip, I've tried Express, I pressed "Synchronize" but it said the same thing as Connect - your SW is up to date, at version 5.37.

    Venu 3s are supposed to be on 8.25 by now or am I wrong?

    Or maybe...does Garmin push new updates globally or do they differentiate between countries? I'm from the Czech Republic (that's my authorization domain in the Express settings), is it possible we're just so far behind?

  • All right, it's all good. Almost exactly two days after I first turned the watch on the update finally triggered and installed. Now it's 8.25. They sure took their sweet time with this, I wonder how many people just straight up return their watch, if they buy it, turn it on and it just doesn't update for a few days :D  Anyway, the important thing is it's done now.

  • Haha, that is great. There could be differences in software between time zones and the maximum delay is maybe 2-3 weeks. But great that you are on 8.25. Enjoy the watch :)
