Screen dimming at night

So just upgraded from Venu 2+ to Venu 3 and so far liking it. One issue I have noticed is that at night, during scheduled sleep hours, the screen is dim. My eyes are not great and as dim as the screen goes, I can't read the time. It does illuminate by lifting my wrist but it is too dim for me to read it, especially without my glasses. I have played around with setting and still no difference. Screen is set to brightest level and auto is disabled. Brightness During Sleep is set to don't change and Do Not Disturb is off. I would really like to be able to read the watchface if I wake up at night but right now no such luck. Not sure if there is something else I am missing but suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • I have the exact same question.  Certainly, there must be a way around this issue.  My watch is one week old now and if I can't rectify this it will go back to Amazon before my 30 days are over.  What idiot thought that this was a good idea?

  • I found this.  I think the wording of the last statement is poor, but I just turned my setting to off and I howpe that this will keep my normal daytime setting watch face during the sleep interval.

    1. Hold .(bottom button)
    2. Select Settings > System > Display.
    3. Turn Large Fonts on to increase the size of the text on the screen.
    4. Select Brightness to set the brightness level of the screen.
    5. Select General Use or During Activity.
    6. Select an option:
      • Select Timeout to set the length of time before the screen turns off.

      • Select Always On to keep the watch face data visible and turn down the brightness and background. This option impacts the battery and display life (About the AMOLED Display).

      • Select Gesture to turn on the screen by raising and turning your arm to look at your wrist.

      • Select Sensitivity to adjust the gesture sensitivity to turn on the display more or less often.

    7. Select During Sleep > Watch Face to choose a sleep watch face with minimal, dim settings or to keep the default watch face on during your defined sleep window.

I'm not sure, but 7 can be interpreted two ways.  Since my default setting was "On" and I have the sleep dimming problem, I decided to try "Off", which I think means "turn the dimming function off".  At any rate, it appears the same idiot who thought that this function was a good idea to default it to "On" was the same person who described its implementation.

  • Thanks very much for the info and detailed instructions!! I will give this a try tonight.

  • So after going thru the steps you described, I found had had already changed the default to "off". I have cycled thru the setting and have reset the choices and rebooted the watch to see if that will change anything and will report back.

  • Last night, after setting the function to "off", I found that, while the display was mich dimmer than my non-sleep settings, the display is identical to my normal display but I could definitely read it, and could clearly see the time.  The one caveat I found was that arm motion no longer activated the display, but tapping it did.  Personally, I'm satisfied because I now can tell what time it is if I wake up in a dark room.

  • I have this issue and hate it. If I am at the airport or on a plane in the middle of the night I can't see my screen.

I know this post is old but I thought you might still appreciate a workaround I tried.

I set my sleep cycle to ... Bedtime is 12 midnight and wake up time is 1 minute past midnight. (I had to do this for each day).

so now the watch is only dim for one minute at midnight, then back to normal. Not perfect but seems to work.

Update: Just found out this does work but now the watch does not monitor my sleep anymore. What a stupid system in an otherwise great watch.
