Recovery and altitude

I live in Atlanta but am helping with a household move in Denver. In addition to light move activity (Pro movers did hefty lifting) I've done a couple very easy bike rides (15 miles at 15 mph. My avg ride is 20-30 miles at 18 mph).

According to my Venu2 my stress levels - even during sleep are much higher than normal for me (although getting slightly lower each night) and thus my body battery recovery is abysmal (recovering 30Frowning2 pts at night when I avg 50+).

️I feel a bit tired but not as much as my watch would indicate. So question is does the Venu 2 get fooled by altitude change or is this an accurate reflection of my body struggling to adjust?

  • I did almost the same thing. From Atlanta to Boulder. I noticed several metrics during my training that could be related to altitude. My understanding is that it could take 10 or more days to acclimate to increased altitude. Although going from Atlanta altitude (~1,000 ft in my case) to Denver altitude (~5,280 ft) is not considered a dramatic increase. I still felt it.

    • Increased respiration
    • Elevated heart rate
    • Increased HRV

I used the Altitude Widget but I don't think this is available on the Venu 2.

  • Thanks so much. That Widget sounds great but as you noted apparently not available for Venu 2. My Garmin Edge 830 did note that I was partially acclimated to altitude.
