Hike activity still broken?

Hi there, when using the hike activity on my Venu 2s today,  the first data screen didn't display, but the other two optional screens did. I turned off screens two and three to see what would happen - big mistake. 

When I started the hike activity the screen went blank and I had no way of returning to the previous screen. While on the hike, I got the periodic lap notification. If I hit the top button quick enough I could get to the setup screen to restart the device.

Unfortunately, restarting just returned it to the same blank-screen state, with the hike still apparently tracking in the background (lap notifications still appear when I walk). Holding and pressing buttons doesn't seem to do anything. 

I saw a post with this same issue three years ago, but no solution was offered. Hoping someone has fixed this by now. Is there a way I can reset the watch, or force the activity to stop?

My Venu 2s is now kaput!
