Not recording maps

Until last month, my Garmin Venu 2 was recording maps of runs and walks. It is no longer doing this.

I am connected to GPS, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, my watch is up to date, I have also turned the watch off and on again. I have googled all fixes and my settings have not changed since my maps last loaded in November.

Can you please help? Thanks

  • Have you tried the fixes mentioned here? Possibly syncing with Garmin Express

Venu SQ doesn' show any maps after recording

Hello .  The symptoms that you're describing indicate that the activities have been started before the watch connects to GPS.  Please make sure that you wait for the watch to indicate that it has connected to GPS before you start the timer and begin moving.

Syncing the watch with Garmin Express on your computer or with the Garmin Connect mobile app will send GPS satellite predictive orbit data to the watch so that it knows "where" to look for the satellites.  This will shorten the time that it takes the watch to connect to GPS.

If this fails to correct the issue, reach out to Garmin Product Support.

  • As I stated on my first post, I AM connected to GPS. I wait for my watch to buzz ‘ready’ and I then start. I have had my watch for over a year and never had any problem. It is only recent. There is definitely an issue I have tried to fix for literally hours and I cannot.

  • As I mentioned, try Garmin Express. Then if no joy...

If this fails to correct the issue, reach out to Garmin Product Support.

It's likely that Garmin would have you reset to factory defaults - Venu 2 Series Owner's Manual - Restoring All Default Settings (garmin.com)

To reset all of the watch settings to the factory default values and delete all user-entered information and activity history, select Delete Data and Reset Settings.

  • As  mentioned, please reach out to your local Garmin Support team if updating device via Garmin Express does not help.

  • I'm seeing this as well on my girlfriend's Venu 2s. No map's been showing since December 2023.

  • I am having this same issue with my Venu Sq. I have an activity from December 30, 2023 that recorded GPS and HR fine. The next activity was 1/24/2024 with HR from another HRM. The watch recorded time and everything except GPS data. I had another activity today with the same problem. Having already looked into problem fixes, I made sure the GPS was connected before starting the activity. I made sure the activity profile had GPS + GLONASS enabled for location. I stopped the original activity and started a new one from a different activity profile. This did not solve the issue. Both activity profiles failed to record location data.

  • Switching the data recording rate from "Smart" to "Every Second" seems to have fixed the issue.

  • Running with a Garmin Venu 2S and having exactly the same issue. Clearly a bug in the latest software.

Has anyone reached out to Garmin yet on this? Doing a complete factory reset should not be valid thing to ask a user. Losing all settings is a mess of you have to put everything back again. I have better things to do.

I'll try the "record every second" workaround bit this is likely going to store a lot more data.

I hope they fix this soon

  • And the odd part: altitude data was recorded for all three activities that lacked latitude and longitude. The files are smaller size than ones with complete data. It's almost like its not saving the latitude, longitude data at the end of the activity.

  • I turned off the watch and back on. This solved the issue. Same active profile settings as before - 1 second recording and GPS + GLONASS.
