SaO2

I have SaO2 set in the bottom right but it always says 96% even if I hold my breath for long enough to dip it. Does it require any other setting to function?

Which tracking mode are you using? "All Day," During Sleep" or "ManualCheck"

My Venu doesn't offer ManualCheck. I tried All Day but it tears through the battery. Manual Check would have suited me.

Should be able to select "On Demand."

Venu 2 Series Owner's Manual - Changing the Pulse Oximeter Tracking Mode (garmin.com)

To turn on measurements while you are inactive during the day, select All Day.
NOTE: Turning on pulse oximeter tracking decreases battery life.
To turn on continuous measurements while you sleep, select During Sleep.
NOTE: Unusual sleep positions can cause abnormally low sleep-time SpO2 readings.
To turn off automatic measurements, select On Demand.
