When I manually check the respiration rate (simply checking how long a breathe in + breathe out takes) it is about 6-7 per minute. My Garmin Venu 2 says 13 or 14. What am I doing wrong?

Exactly the same on my Forerunner 265S, I measure about 6-7 breaths per minute but it says 12-14. At first I thought they counted breath in and out separately, but their documentation suggests otherwise. My base HR is around 65 awake and <50 at night. At least it does seem to measure something meaningful as it does go up when I breathe faster.
Doesn't work for me neither . Seems that the gizmo works by detecting changes in heart rate caused by breathing (HR goes up slightly as we breathe in and down as we breathe out. (Look up heart coherence for lots on HRV).
My RHR is about 40 but HRV is very high, so I'd hoped it would work for me. Garmin is pretty upfront that you can only expect this feature to work if you use a chest strap. I'll connect one up, just to see....
