Is it just my watch or is the pulse ox sensor so inaccurate it is useless?

I've seen a few complaints on the internet that the pulse ox measurements are too low for many people.

I have found that my oxygen saturation measurement goes UP when I hold my breath. It's all the way at 100% saturation after 2 full minutes of breath hold.

That makes no sense at all. Is anyone else experiencing this? Did I get a defective watch?

  • I find the watch's sensor consistently 2% - 3% below my fingertip sensor's readings. With that knowledge, I use the watch's information to track trends, so it's useful for that. I haven't tried holding my breath, but logic indicates that would lower your blood oxygen content instead of increasing it. Shrug‍♂️

  • Not 100% sure that it would lower. As the body wants to keep the vital organs running at al cost, it might be that it transports oxygen at max to those organs. But I am not physician, so it can be total *** as well xD.
