The running pace is way off with my Venu 2, is yours doing this too?

Hi, just wondering if this is normal for the Venu 2, or if I received a defective unit.

When running, the watch displays my Pace as being quite a bit different than other watches and my phone. The other day my watch showed 12:00/mile while my phone displayed 11:00/mile. My training plan called for 11:30/mile, and I wasn't sure if I should speed up or slow down.

I was running with a group recently, on a trail with some trees but not complete tree cover. I was running at the front and setting the pace for the group. My pace on my watch was consistently faster than the other runners' watches and phones were showing. When mine showed 10:00/mile, theirs were showing around 9:00/mile. Mine also jumped up and down quite a bit, the pace that is, while we were keeping an even speed. The others were using a Garmin Forerunner 45, a phone with Strava, an Apple Watch, etc. Theirs agreed with each other for the most part, but not with mine.

My last watch, a Fitbit Versa 2, seemed to agree on pace pretty well with my phone using the Strava app to record.

Is it possible that my watch is defective, and not locking onto the GPS satellites correctly? Or maybe it's tracking correctly, but not displaying the right pace while running... Or is this normal for the Venu 2?

For what it's worth, my Venu 2 consistently records a little shorter distance on a run than my Strava app does. About 2% shorter. So a 2.0 mile run on Strava would be 1.96 mile on my Venu 2. Same exact run. The Venu 2 distance seems to be a closer match to the official race distances at 5k races, etc.

But that means that the Venu 2 should be showing that I'm running slightly slower than my Strava app shows. Instead, it shows my pace to be a lot faster. Like 9% faster, when just going by distance and time it should be showing 2% slower...

How accurate is the pace on your Venu 2?

  • I have a Vivoactive 3 and the way I fixed this particular issue was by disabling the "auto pause" feature. I noticed that this feature stops counting distance for longer than the time you really stopped. It took longer to resume the session. I hope it helps and therefore it always shows your distance shorter than other devices.
