Venu 2s horrible battery life

Hi,

About 2 months ago I bought my first Garmin wearable, the Venu 2s. And it looks like it might be my last.

Since a few weeks the battery life is unacceptable and nothing I have done helps.

I've kept track of how fast the battery drains. Here's the most recent example:

Saturday 9/7 12:40 100%
Sunday 10/4 10:45 76%
Sunday 10/4 14:20 71%
Monday 11/4 21:30 35%
Tuesday 12/4 21:00 10%

So it takes about 80 hours for the battery to drop to 90%.
Other recent measurements arrived at 74 and 76 hours.

This is without recording any activities!

For a watch that is advertised as being able to last up to 10 days, this is not acceptable. And when the watch was new, it would last twice as long, about 6 days (which I also found disappointing, I would have thought with 10 days advertised, 7 days should be doable).

Other information:

- I've tried the "press the power button for a long time" which had no effect.
- I have removed the watch from the bluetooth devices on my phone, removed it from the Garmin Connect App and have done a full reset from the watch.
- Since the reset I no longer have any custom watch faces; just keep it on the default one.
- I don't use an always-on display.
- SpO2 is off.
- I've also tried running it for full charge with the bluetooth connection to the phone disabled, but this did not have any impact.

My "impression" is the battery life deteriorated after I had tried just for 1 night to active the SpO2 during sleep. After this 1 night I deactivated it again as I did not see the benefit compared to larger battery drain. But sadly battery life never recovered again.

I believe the watch is simply broken.

Unless someone has other suggestions I could try?

  • I’m wondering if it has something to do with the network connectivity?  I’d try deleting the network temporarily and see if that makes a difference.

When you did a hard reset (pressing the power button for 10 seconds) did it shut all the way off?  Make sure it does as that often fixes a lot of odd problems.

  • Thanks for replying.

What do you mean by deleting the network? The Wifi in the Connect IQ app? Because currently (since the hard reset) I don't have any Wifi network configured anymore for the Venu.

I have tried charging it by connecting it with my PC as that is something Garmin support has suggested in other threads. But that hasn't made a difference.

For the reset I did B > cogwheel > System > Reset > Delete Data and Reset Settings. This supposedly restores the device to factory settings, which it appeared to have done but unfortunately it did not bring back the initial battery life.

As I understand it, holding the A button for 10 or 15 seconds "only" does a soft reset. I've just tried this again, and it did shut all the way off. I'll see if it improves things or not..

  • They (Garmin) call holding the A button down until it shuts off a “hard reset” (not sure why) where you did a data delete and reset settings.  I do find the hard reset does fix a lot of strange bugs that crop up so I am hoping that it helps you.

Yeah I meant Wifi in the connect app.

Is there any difference compared to "2 button hard reset method" please?

  • I'm having the same issue.  At 27 hours post charge I'm at 65% battery life.  I used GPS for 31 mins yesterday.  This watch did not drain this fast when I got it in Nov.   I had the original venu and I know this is smaller but this battery life is consistently getting worse.  Something changed and I believe it's software.

  • Hello all,

I see that some of you still have Connect IQ content (including watch faces) installed on the Venu 2/2s in question.  Please see my last comment in the main thread below:

    https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu-2/287720/rapid-battery-drain-after-activity-on-venu-2/1399153#1399153

This thread also includes a suggestion to reach out to your local Garmin Product Support and a link to do so.

  • Do you mean that even having a watch face "installed" but not "active" will drain the battery?   That seems kind of extreme.  I've update my Connect IQ and removed anything non Garmin.  I would hope that Garmin faces, etc would not drain the battery.  The faces leave a lot to be desired so hopefully this issue is resolved and I can go back to third party faces.

  • Removing non-Garmin connect IQ stuff didn't have an impact.   I've lost 28% in about 22 hours.  That seems like a lot given previous battery life experience.
