While not a issue with the watch per se. Garmin have changed the way they calculate calorie burn.
Below is a shot from MyFitnessPal, it’s very clear here that there is something very odd with Garmins calculations
My daily calories are 1950, this is the calories my body needs plus a small amount for sedentary chores and movement. BMR is around 1700, so Garmin gives 250 for sedentary lifestyle.
I did a run for 324 cals and weights for 412. My watch tells me around 5500 steps for those 2 in total.
I have then done a further 9100 steps including a 2 mile non recorded walk and get a grand total of 34 extra calories
This puts my daily total burn at 2764, I eat around 3k calories a day for a month with no weight gain or loss.
I know these devices aren’t super accurate but the idea that 9100 steps equated to 36 calories is rubbish. Even if I add in the 250 sedentary calories it’s still low as 9k steps at 165lbs is around 400 calories at a conservative estimate.
