Big Kcal difference for same route

Hi, I´m walking one route quite often but I have found out, that there are two very different calories estimates for this same route on VENU2.

This is from this month. The path is +-few meters the same but there are two estimate categories. Around 70Kcal and 150Kcal. How is this possible? Newest 2 are after factory reset for each measurement.

For comparison this is from vivoactive3 from November (got Venu2 for Christmas):

As you can see its very consistent. I´m a bit lighter now so calories are litle higher here as expected.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Garmin-Kevin Can you please look at this?

And then there is that 20bpm lower HR running problem from patch 8.11. Starting to be really unhappy with this purchase. Never had any issue with vivoactive3.

EDIT: Was checking history little bit more and it seems that these weird calories estimates started from Feb 7th. Measurement from Feb 4th and before are estimating all around 150KCal. These are in correlation with vioactvie 3. Don´t know if there was any update around Feb7th that can caused this mess.

EDIT2: Ah you can see version in activity detail.. version is the same for Feb 7th as for Feb 4th (v5.38)..So dunno what could caused this

  • In terms of the venu 2 data, I’m presuming that the hr monitor didn’t get a good lock on those lower calories values.  I would have a check of the hr data in those low calorie walks.

If it is, I can only suggest tightening the watch a little more on your walk.  For a 2km walk I would imagine closer to 150 sounds correct.

  • Thank you for reply. I was checking HR graph in Connect for two instances. Can´t see any missing parts on either one. But not sure how would "bad HR lock" manifest in graph. HR was definetly lower on average in lower calorie walk. But this seems like a normal thing (bug) after 8.11 update.
Well I will try to tighten the watch a little more on my next walk.

My GFs Venu2s seems to act ok. Same as before update to 8.11..no weird HR readings on runs (outside or treadmill). Sadly no walking activities to compare.
Was hoping for some reply from Garmin official but I guess my hopes were too high.

Anyway thanks for trying to help

  • Hi, it’s not missing parts, more what the heart rate is.  I suspect the average and tracked hr will be lower than on the other activities as you point out.

this is likely a dirty sensor or poor fit.  I ran in the gym yesterday with a crazy low HR.

I took it off and wiped the sensor.  Bingo, HR was back to normal.

  • Yeah hard to say..try tighter fit today.. 80KCal..so no change (try factory reset yesterday). Im cleaning/wiping sensor kinda often so dont think this is it. To be honest I ´m kinda lost on what to do now. Not sure I can downgrade back to 5.38 and reapply upgrade..can cause more problems (if its even possible - it was from v8.05 beta as far as I know). Not sure

  • Oddly, I had this issue on my Garmin 645 as well.  I’m sure it’s more to do with fit and HR lock.

  • Still having same issues. Restored v5.38 and updated to v8.11 again. First 2 walks were counted 150Kcal and  134Kcal..so Okish I guess.

But today in half of my walk it was showing wrongly again. So i decided to stop activity and start it again (via VO2max testing walk but dunno if it matters or not). And this is what i get:

On way back even with lower HR/min and lower distance the 74Kcal is counted as it should be..  WTF.

So is it a SW bug that will be fixed or its some HW sensor problem? Tons of threads with problems here but 0 repsonse from Garmin whatsoever Rage.

  • Contact Garmin, I use messenger and see if they can problem solve or offer a replacement.
