8.11 update shows incorrect gps version

After the 8.11 update, gps still on v6.00, should it not be 6.01?

The watch is keeps "installing updates" every 5 minutes, self reboots and then says gps version updated. Been happening since the update.

Tried connecting to garmin express to follow instructions from another topic in the forum, however none of the proposed solutions worked.

  • Hi  @Garmin-Brooks any help?

I had to delete my garmin account and recreate a new one.

I downgraded the watch to 5.38 and updated again, to 8.11 issue went away for a couple of hours and then back again.

I noticed the watch keeps inserting a file called gup3799.gcd in the \Garmin\RemoteSW. If I delete it, the watch does not self update for while, however after an hour, the file reappears and the issue is back again

    Please assist.

  • Hello .  Are you receiving the update from the Bluetooth connection to your Garmin Connect mobile app or by syncing with Garmin Express on your computer?

  • From my garmin connect app. However after hard resetting the problem seemed to have gone away. Once i plugged into a pc to charge, the gps issue was back. It seems that when it connects to the internet directly, it tries to fetch an update, however if wifi is disable and i do not plug the watch into the pc (not even opening garmin express at this stage) the the update issue is not pushed through via connect app.

  • Ok, so two different options that you can try:

    1. Disable BT and Wi-Fi on the watch and connect the watch to your computer and delete the .gcd file (again).  While it is still plugged in, sync with Garmin Express to download the update.  When you disconnect, if you do not see it prompt the update, reconnect to the computer again and sync with Garmin Express once more.  After this process, you should have 6.01 GPS sw installed.  If not:
    2. Leave BT disabled but re-enable Wi-Fi.  From the watch, search for any available sw updates.  This will force the watch to use Wi-Fi (instead of BT) to download the GPS 6.01 update.

If neither of these options work for you, please reach out to your local Garmin Product Support team.

  • Thanks kevin, I tried both of this just now. Neither works, the gps sw still shows as 6.00.

Are you unable to send me the correct file so I can place in the relevant folder for manual update?
