Changing to Hungarian language break the device

Hi!

Yesterday (2/27/2022) during a wi-fi sync my Venu 2 become irresponsive, so I decided to hard reset via the buttons, but after that, it didn't want to boot up again. After several re-try, I decided to factory reset the device. After that, at the initial setup, It asked me to choose my language, I choose Hungarian, and it crashed again, remained in an endless loop, and only a new factory reset solved the problem. I tried with English, Espanol, and France languages, the setup could be completed with them.

I bought the device 15 days ago, and I was using it in the Hungarian language since then, until yesterday

You can also make the device freeze out in several other ways if you want:

  1. Perform the initial setup after a factory reset in English and change to Hungarian later, anytime
  2. Change your preferences to the Garmin connect web app to Hungarian and sync with the device with the Garmin Express PC app via USB cable. After you unplug the cable, the device became irresponsive

I thought I write these things down here, for me it took more than 3 hours to bring my device back to life, you don't need to waste that time again

  • My wife has the same problem yesturdar, today she began her day in the local garmin service. There was a 1 hour long que and all ladies has this same problem.

I am wondering how can garmin release a fw with this kind fo bug? :-(

  • Guys, I am Hungary, too,  but it is not a secret at all, my nickname makes it evident. :-)

I also bought a Venu2s for my wife 2 weeks ago, and she prefers  Hungarian languague on her watch in spite of my warning.

Until now she have had no problem, but her watch is still on the older fw, 5.38.

What about you? You reported that your problems started yesterday. Do your watches run on the newer fw, 8.11?

    Or still the old one?

  • Hello. I use Hungarian language also on my Venu 2. I experienced same problem today morning when I restarted my Venu 2. It went into starting mode but stopped there displaying only a triangle and it frozen in famous triangle status. The remedy is dowloading the latest 8.11 software version via PC using Garmin Express. 8.11 is already available. After disconnecting the USB cable Venu 2 will install the software and after it's automatic restarting language can be set to Hungarian what finally works again. Good luck!

I wish I could forget this day! Isn't Garmin?

  • Thx, I guess the triangle freeze was the result of an unsuccesful 8.11 update (received either via wifi or through GC app).

  • My software version is 5.38, thanx for pointing out that there is a newer available.

  • My sw was also 5.38 when the triangle issue happened. Strange that 5.38 version was updated directly to 8.11 a two hours ago. Big version change isn't? But I did not experience any new feature yet. Just works in Hungarian again. :-)

  • The  8.11 software update solved the problem, Hungarian language can be safely st again

  • We went through the update. My findings:

    1. in case of Hungarian language setting Venu 2/2s is stuck at the triangle even if one updates with Garmin Express. So the bug is not related to whether one updates via GE, with GC or through wifi.

    2. in case of a triangle struck there is no remedy proposed by Garmin, (at least I did not find it on Garmin support pages) but the steps of an enforced hard reset is detailed here: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/garmin/garmin-venu-2/hardreset-second-method/

    3. Our update had two steps, after a proper install of 8.11, we got an update for wifi sw, too, we got 4.11
