Download - Venu 2

Download - Venu 2s

Notes:

  • If you see any issues send an email to [email protected] Please indicate the following: Your Venu variant (Venu 2 or Venu 2S) Software version GCM version Android or iOS
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 5.38 to 8.05:

  • Removed WEP Wi-Fi network support
  • Added press and hold on watch face complications to open detailed view
  • Added Connect IQ System 5 support
  • Improved display backlight performance
  • Sleep, watch face, and workout improvements
  • Stability and UI improvements
  • I see someone commented that the battery life is better on 8.05. I can attest to that. My watch has 5% more battery life left each day. I don't use AOD. But I have a 2.5 hours long exercise session in the morning when I actively broadcast heart rate, and due to high wrist movement, most of the time the watch stays on. Before this update the battery would drop to 79% more or less consistently (my routine is pretty constant, and I charge every day while showering almost around the same time). Today it had 85% charge left! That is impressive as I even got a warning when I first enabled wrist heart rate broadcast that it would have significant impact on battery.

That being said, shame on Apple for such a horrendous battery life on Apple Watch when Garmin can do such a good job. And kudos to Garmin.

EDIT: One more thing: the HRM on the Garmin Venu 2 is amazing! I had Vivoactiv 3 before, then switched to Samsung Galaxy Active 2, and then even briefly used Fitbit Sense. None of them was able to track my HRM even remotely closely to the actual one (benchmarked against Polar H10). Fitbit and Samsung would just generate random number. I have tested my Venu 2 up to 175 bpm and it is still so accurate. It is typically within 2 or 3 bpm +/- with Polar H10.

  • With night I meant using the watch at night in a dark environment. I just looks weird. It's like having a phone with the screen on all the time.

  • Do you keep the auto brightness or you keep a fixed one? In the second case, switching to the auto brightness could solve the problem. I see some complaints on the Epix 2 forum about the watch being too bright with dark environment but i didn't see any/many of them about the Venu 2 so it just looks strange for me that you have issue with it(with auto brightness selected).

  • Apart from the long press and screen speed, what has actually changed?

    1. Better battery life, better sleep detection. Heart rate was already extremely accurate. But I feel like that also improved. After I bought my Venu 2 about a month and a half ago, I was using polar h10 for first couple weeks and then figured out the HRM is so accurate, wearing polar h10 makes no sense. Btw I train quite vigorously and Venu 2 was already accurate up to 175bpm +/- 2bpm with polar h10. As I no longer use polar h10, I can't objectively tell. Just my feeling that the HRM is more accurate in the ramp up period (between 95bpm to 115bpm Venu 2 has some larger error compared to polar h10. And I feel that improved a bit)
  • As I am the most enthusiastic Garmin promoter of this thread, to set the record straight I am not a Garmin fanboy. If Garmin made a phenomenal technology marvel with Venu 2 series, they equally botched up their fitness scale. Wow Garmin. Every morning I stand on my Garmin Index S2 and I feel shocked at how stupid this product has been. It literally changes weight by 2+ lb even within minutes. Wildly inaccurate. Not even good for trend analysis. A $10 Chinese scale is far superior than this junk. Sadly they closed their ecosystem and forced me to spend $150(+ tax) for a garbage. Hopefully someone from Garmin is going to escalate this, given that this is coming from someone who truly appreciates Garmin products when they work.

  • I find, too, that Venu 2 is amazing and even more amazing with this update. I'm a bit worried that i will be disappointed when i get the Epix 2 but i want to try it as it really looks like what i wanted to find(Venu 2 is missing many training features that i would like to try).

Same for the scale...i don't have your problems with weight but everything else is garbage. And also chinese scales are garbage or at least the one that i tried...everything was based on the weight without any real difference on the other values. Withings scale looks promising and will be the next one that i will try(not soon but i'll do it).

  • So far, this feels like a really good update. Scrolling through menus feels smoother, but I notice a slight bit of screen tearing when scrolling at a certain speed. Very similar to the "wobbly screen" effect some users of the latest iPad mini reported.

Battery seems to be lasting longer than it used to. Some workout default data screens have changed too, I think? Pilates now shows reps for some reason on the last data screen.

Regarding sleep, I've had a few days where the watch has randomly reported a sleep session in the middle of the day, with 1 huge awake period in-between 2 very short sleep stages. This is during the day when I have been working. Granted, I do sit at a desk and do not move around too much, but this didn't happen on older software.

  • Gesture screen fade in is gone (yeah !!!) now when you turn your wrist to look at the watch, the screen turns on straight away, no more slow fade in !!!
    THANK YOU Garmin !!!

  • In the prior version with auto brightness turned on and set to medium I could see the watch clearly in bright sunlight. On the beta I no longer can with these settings and I really cant see it well even on auto brightness set to high. I have to set the watch to manual brightness, 100% to see the face in bright sunlight. I emailed the beta ID.
