floors climbed

Hi

around 3 weeks ago something changed dramatically with my floor counts on my venu 2, it went from a very believable 3-10 to 25-54 while carrying out very similar days activities, I've soaked it, blew into the altimeter hole and tried recalibration over the last few days, however it remains consistently awful and i have the constant vibration of achieving and doubling / tripling my goal for floors not to mention the calendar streak, its barely 3 months old, how do i go about getting it fixed, where are the phone numbers, thanks

  • Try to hard reset your watch.

Second thing is a difference of temperatures. It has big impact to floors count.

In Europe we have winter now, so entering from outside where it's -1 or 0 to hot building, where's 12 or 15 degrees Celsius, can give errors in floors count. For me, while climbing only 3 floors, it showed 17. I also tried to reset, calibrate, but it did nothing.

    Look here:

    Garmin floors climbed FAQ

For me the point about temperature was a key. Climbing inside of building, getting out a room, and climbing 8 floors gived me 5 floors in result, what is reasonable meassure, but without going outside, where's cold.

Garmin should again calculate it with the weather and use the temperature sensor, if the forecast gives low temperatures, -1 etc, the algorithm should count it while approximating climbed floors. Or, when temperature sensor inside watch (which is impacted by skin temperature) goes down, the algorithm should also count it in some way.

  • Thanks

I tried the hard reset this morning, walked down my flight of stairs drove a short distance to my work place, walked a fair bit but zero stairs, came home walked up my stairs, I'm on 22 floors!!

I don't buy the temperature change excuse from Garmin, maybe 1 or 2 floors. I've changed to this from a fitbit ionic and it never had any noticeable problems counting floors with temperature changes, if they can't at least match their competitors they should just leave it out. Europe & the US are pretty seasonal places so no excuse for not factoring in.

That said it was working perfectly for the first 2 months and i really like the watch, lets see how much hassle a replacement will be

  • Well, I also think it should be calculated better, more accurately.  And I also got replacement to new one.

Old Venu 2, which I replaced:

That time I climbed maybe 3 or 4 floors, but with going outside few times.Temperature outside could have strong impact to calculation.

The new (replaced) Venu 2 looks to be more accurate:

This is also with going outside and then inside. Climbing 5 floors, so 12 floors of error. As above, temperature around 0 degrees Celsius outside could have impact.

But staying inside of the building results are more accurate:

Climbed 7 floors up and 7 down, so there's 1 floor of inaccuracy - and it's acceptable. No influence by outdoor temperature.

So, Garmin, if you like your watches to compete other companies, move on to keyboards and let's do it, let's change algorithms to count data from sensor better Slight smile

  • Hello .  I'm sorry to hear of the trouble that you're having with the barometric altimeter on your watch.  Do you need any contact information for your local Garmin Product Support Team?  They may be able to offer some other troubleshooting, depending on your circumstances.

Additionally, I have included (below) some FAQs that have information on this subject.  It sounds like you have already read at least one of these, but I wanted to make sure you had the information anyway.

  • Hi Kevin

If you could give me the most direct number for a repair/replacement it would be very helpful as no amount of resetting, calibrating or cleaning is going to make any difference to me racking up floors before I've even stepped out of bed.

    I'm in keynsham, bristol, UK.

    Thanks
