Venu 2 vs Garmin 645

I found a deal on the Venu 2 for £250 to replace a 645

Now, I know I’m missing some stuff that the 645 has, however, none of it really concerns me.

My question is over battery life and whether the amoled screen is a big enough upgrade.  Along with the elevate 4 optical hr sensor.

So, simply put is this a great watch, does the slate colour look great and is there any features that stand out.   Body battery seems interesting, it is at gimmick or useful?

thanks.

Darren.

  • Ok.  That question didn’t get too many answers.  Well, I ordered it anyway, all the reviews online say it’s great.

  • Hi Darren, I think you'll like it.

    Venu 2 vs. Forerunner 645

    Venu 2 battery life assumptions

Body battery seems interesting, it is at gimmick or useful?

I find it useful. Mostly to make sure I'm not over training and I'm getting enough recovery and quality sleep in between hard workouts.

  • Just keep in mind that the intended usage of the Venu is different from the Forerunner ... the Venu is an activity tracker while the Forerunner is a sports watch with a focus on running.

The Venu can track runs, but you won't get the same detailed metrics that you probably get from the Forerunner.

  • You’re right, that said, I don’t find those details all that useful these days.  I think I just wanted a change and the Venu 2 is about as different as it gets.

The main draw was the new hr sensor, the screen and oddly, body battery.

I’m going to keep the 645 and if I start running again I can always use that for the metrics. The 645 resale value is minuscule. £50 quid minus eBay fees seems like a lot of effort for not much gain

  • I find the OLED screen of the Venu 2 really nice...especially compared to the the MIP's one that i tried with the Vivoactive 4.

I keep the always-on display during the day and i can do 2 days with 1 charge...without the AOD it can last, easily, 4-7 days based on how much you use it.

GPS looks really accurate without pretending the impossible, HR is accurate and body battery is a good indication of your overall body.

  • Sounds good to me.  Though I won’t be going always on myself.   I’m looking forward to getting it.

I didn’t realise it was basically a vivoative with a nice screen.  I always used to have vivoactice watches until the 645.

  • Venu is vivoactive 4 with the OLED screen(i had it before Venu 2) but Venu 2 is a lot better in my opinion.

There are small aesthetic changes that i prefer and the whole software got a big upgrade(mainly the graphic of the widgets that makes everything more smooth and pleasant). GPS is more accurate too, compared to Venu, while i didn't notice big difference for the HR(body battery alghoritm changed and it looks more accurate on Venu 2).

If you care about it, spo2 is not really accurate during sleep and i had mixed results during spot measurings.

If you want to see an in-depth review you can search for DC RAINMAKER on Google.

Hopefully you will enjoy it too :)

  • Ahh ok.  I heard the Venu 2 was much more polished of a device.

I’m really looking forward to getting it.  Gotta wait a week or so for the shop to get it in stock and send it to me.

  • Be sure to report back on your experience. I am also a 645 user who bought a Venu 2 but returned it after a week (but I'm now thinking about the Venu 2+ for the future). I'd be interested in your opinion on the changes to the screen vs battery life. The 645 has an always-on screen and its battery lasts for many days; with the Venu 2 series you have a choice between on-with-gesture and decent battery life or always-on and just a couple days between charges. I have too many rechargeable devices as it is to keep track of without having to remember to be charging my watch all the time.

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear how you decided to handle it.

  • Haha. Interesting story there.  I decided to cancel the order.  I decided the screen was going to be an issue.  Yes, it looks nice but the I decided it could be a deal breaker.  I was little concerned about battery life as well.  11 days seems great but I wasn’t sure I would get it.

I realised all of its other features were a bit redundant.  I always have my phone so music and garmin pay are not needed.

I do like the idea of body battery but I’m guessing i will ignore it after a week.  Truth is apart from wanting a new watch, there was no reason to get another.   I will wait and see what comes this year. May even get a Fenix 7.  Seems like a better upgrade.
