Frustrated about Venu 2 accuracy of indications. Is Venu 2 a toy?

Dear Garmin Forum,

I would like to write few words especially to Garmin staff, as they are responsible for functionality of their devices.

Are Venu 2 health indicators and sensors worth the same as $20 cheap chinese toy?

I bought a Venu 2 smartwatch from Amazon.de, and I really tried to give it a chance in real life, but I have to return it.

Of course I don't expect the accuracy of professional measuring devices, but please...

Climbing floors... Sometimes it shows nothing, sometimes 10 floors, while I climbed only 3 floors. Totally useless.

Stress indicator - totally useless - shows only physical exertion, I think it takes into account the heart rate. There is absolutely no connection with nervousness and calmness. I know when I do exercises, so what it gives me? Nothing.

Pulseoximeter - shows complete nonsense, If I belive its indications, I would have to suffocate.

Sleep tracking - the biggest disappointment. My old Amazfit Bip did it a way better. Garmin shows that I'm sleeping while I'm reading, totally wrong sleep phases, it shows REM while I'm awake during night. I will not mention lack of support of Sleep as Android, which was great in cheap Amazfit BIP.

The only sensors I probably could belive is heart rate monitor and GPS - wow, as good as in cheap chinese toys.

I  thought Garmin is a serious company, which doesn't release toys on the market.

The question is: is there a chance that it's software fault and it will be corrected on future SW updates?

Or this is hardware issue and this watch never will show even approximate correct data?

Garmin, do you take your customers seriously?

Thanks for replies.

Hm, I didn't have any Garmin earlier, I was looking for successor of my old Amazfit BIP, I was looking for something universal - really great looking, with perfect battery, good accuracy of indications of fitness/health status, and with great GPS performance.

Venu 2 regarding to specification was great.

Well, HRM in this watch is for me quite enough accurate.

    What setting do you mean?

  • I don't think you can set HR in smart/every second.

That's only for ths GPS points( https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=s4w6kZmbmK0P6l20SgpW28 )

HR is taken every second(if you have a watchface that shows the live heart rate you will notice that it can change also every second) in both activities or during normal usage but the accuracy is better during the activities.

There are no perfect smartwatches that can take, always, everything perfectly....that's why serious athletes use chest straps to monitor HR and not a smartwatch.

We are talking about optical sensors that are estimating the blood flow and that's something that can be impacted by many factors. Also remember that people tend to write more about stuff that are not working so you will always find more topics about stuff that are bad instead of good ones.

  • Yeah I get that it is an optical sensor but Garmin shows they will do it every second in this article, though I think it may only pertain when you are doing an activity:

What Is Smart Recording vs. Every Second Recording on a Garmin Fitness Device?

When it comes to the GPS track log, many of Garmin's Fitness devices offer the choice of Smart Recording or Every Second Recording. When adjusting this The setting to adjust Data Recording can generally be found under the System Settings of your device. For specific instructions on how to adjust Data Recording, refer to your Owner's Manual

    Smart Recording

Smart Recording logs key points when the fitness device detects changes in direction, speed, heart rate or elevation. It takes up less memory and allows the user extended recording time since it records less track points. Smart Recording does not affect the data being recorded such as pace and distance or heart rate. It only affects the data that is written to the file for storage on the device and on Garmin Connect by removing redundant data points.

    Every Second Recording

This setting records the activity's information every second no matter if the device changes direction, speed, heart rate or elevation. This recording type provides a more defined track log of an activity and uses more memory.

Why Should I Choose One Option Over the Other?

When choosing which option to set your watch to, you will have a few things to consider:

    • Battery life
    • File size
    • GPS accuracy

The more data points your watch records, the smoother and more accurate your track will be. The trade off for this is that it will consume more battery life, as well as more space in the device's memory. If you need a longer battery life, or need to make sure you have more space for a longer activity, you will want to choose Smart Recording. If you want more accuracy and a track that follows your movement based on points that are recorded more often, you will want to choose Every Second Recording.

  • Under settings, system, data recording, there is "smart" or "every second"

  • Unfortunately my experience is similar. I am disabled and don't do stairs yet frequently floors are reported!

It reports sleep when I am wide awake and getting up to go to the loo several times in the middle of the night. Frequently no deep sleep recorded. Rem frequently reported when I know that I'm awake.

I have had both a Vevomove Style & a Venu. Sadly both are grossly inaccurate in the measurements which are important for me to stay healthy. I know that no watch is designed to be a professional health monitor but at least they shouldn't lie so blatantly!!!
