Venu 2 display turns on with gestures even during sleep window

My venu 2 display is activated with gestures even past the specified bed time. I am under the impression that this is not typical behavior, and the screen only turns upon button press during the sleep window. Occasionally this is bothersome as I toss around as I fall asleep.

I am using the 5.27 beta update since I had to fix the wifi error 030 that appeared with the previous software release. I do not recall whether or not this issue was present with the previous version.

  • tried current SW 5.33 ?

  • Garmin express states that the firmware is up to date. And the same is stated by the device as well. Is the update from 5.27 beta to 5.33 automatic? Does it need to be forced?

  • I'm using the 5.27 (not beta) firmware and I don't have this issue. The 5.33 is still not available to me.

  • There have been a few times where I've been flashbanged with a bright light from my watch when trying to sleep. However I am on an old firmware (3.40). Waiting for Garmin to push out the newer ones :(

  • Hi,

did you find any solution for this issue please?

I'm on the latest firmware (SWversion 8.11) and got exactly the same problem.

    My settings:
    1. The watch: Settings - System - Display
    - During Activity: Timeout Allways On, Gesture On, Sensitivity Low
    - Not During Activity: Timeout Allways On, Gesture On, Sensitivity Low
    2. Connect app (Android): Settings - User Settings - Sleep Settings
    - Bed Time 22:00
    - Wake Time: 6:00

Always on display correctly turns off during the sleep windows - screen turns off  at 22:00, but the display is activated with a gesture .

All sensors are off - I'm using the watch as a smart watch only  - for calls and app notifications, NFC payments (no health monitoring at all,  no GPS, no activity monitoring)

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

If you open garmin connect -> tap on the watch icon at the top -> sounds & alerts -> turn on do not disturb during sleep.

On the watch itself open the menu -> system -> Do Not Disturb -> ensure "During Sleep" toggle is activated.

  • Thank you for the suggestion, but it's not applicable for me - I have to get calls and app notifications during the sleep windows - so DND is not a solution for me, but someone else will maybe find your response usefull.

  • So you want notifications during the sleep window but you do not want gestures to turn the screen on. I believe the only way to do this is turn gestures off and on manually before and after sleep. As you indicate the sleep window function is not designed to meet your needs.

  • Thank you, but anything that needs to be done manually on daily basis doesn't fit "smart watch" description in my opinion :)

My main concern is to prolong battery life of Venu2. It's really bad compared to my nearly 3 years old (and cheap) Amazfit GTR - this old watch keeps on running for 6 days with always on display enabled (all sensors off, AOD Timed 6:00-22:00 - and yes, this setting turns off gestures too). After 2 years and 8 months of daily use - battery capacity is the same as the new one thanks to non-frequent charging.

Venu2? Hard to get it running for 2 days after full charge with the same settings :| I'm really disappointed. The only advantage (for me) of Venu2 compared to old GTR is contactless payments....

The need to charge Venu2 three times more often compared to GTR will significantly impact battery life of the watch (number of charging cycles) - to expect it will run for 2 days after 2-3 years in use is simply unrealistic....

  • Understood. Garmin's view is that if the watch is dark during sleep hours and the only way to get information is to double tap the screen - that makes it smart. Your requirement for notifications to show up and buzz on a watch while you are sleeping is probably not as smart in their view. But, to your point, if it was "really smart" you could configure either / or. I never had an amazfit so I don't have a comparison. But the battery life on my Garmin is waaayyyy better than the Samsung I had before. Also better (from what I am told) than and Apple watch.
