Indoor pool swimming not properly tracked

I have a problem when tracking indoor swimming sessions with the Venu 2. My old vivoactive 3 automatically divided a swim into 25/50 meter segments (dependent on pool length) and tracked personal records for intervals (100 meters/1000 meters etc.)

The Venu 2 should also do this, according to the manual, but just tracks 1250 meters as a whole without any segments. Also the SWOLF is way off. It calculated values between 50 and 65 on the old Vivoactive 3 and values between 100 and 120 on the Venu 2. I guess there is an error in the formula for 50 meter pools.

This is the Garmin Connect display for an old Vivoactive 3 swim:

And this is the display on the Venu 2 for an almost identical swim:

Also intensity minutes calculation doesn't make any sense on the Venu 2. It displays an average heart rate of 160 for a 33 minute swim, but only counts 3(!) high intensity minutes and no normal intensity minutes at all. See this screenshot:

This is not a one-time glitch, it has happened with all swim trainings I tracked with the Venu 2 so far. Maybe it's a problem that is limited to the 50 meter pool size. I haven't had the chance to use a 25 meters pool with the Venu 2 so far.

Please check into this issue, since it makes the Venu completely useless for swim tracking at the moment.

  • An addition to the SWOLF problem.

I googled and found that the formula for the SWOLF value is the sum of strokes plus the time in seconds per 25 meter lane.

The Venu 2 erroneously adds the number of strokes plus the time in seconds per 50(!!!) meter lane, so the value is actually double the value it should actually be. This is an interesting fault from a company that produces designated trackers for swimming. I am astonished that I am the first person to notice this.

  • I have the same observation about the intensity minutes: far too low. though they seem to show up in the daily total

  • Not in my case, unfortunately. I just had a look at yesterday's intensity minutes protocol. My swimming unit registers there with only 3 high intensity minutes as well :(

  • I have never seen each length of a Pool Swim activity be classified as its own interval.  That is pretty strange.  Normally, the intervals consist of a number of lengths in each interval.  For instance, personally speaking, if I were swimming a 1,250 meter session, I would probably swim 5 - 250 meter intervals.  It looks like (in the first image on your Vivoactive 3) your activity broke up the 1,250 meters into 50 - 25 meter intervals.  That is not correct.

In the first image on your Venu 2, your Pool Swim activity shows that you swam 1,250 meters with no rests.  In other words, you swam 1 - 1,250 meter interval.  Is that accurate?  If so, that IS correct and that IS how the app should be displaying the activity.

If you would like me to look into this further for you, please answer the following questions below:

    1. May I email you for additional information?
    2. May I view/access your Garmin Connect account to investigate this issue further?

As for the Intensity Minutes, please start a new thread for that issue so that we can investigate these issues separately.

  • Hey Kevin. Thanks for your response.

Yes, you may contact me by email and you may access my Garmin Connect account for further investigation.

  • I have the exact same problem with Venu 2S. SWOLF is miscalculated (in my case instead of 50m - time for 100 m is taken so the SWOLF value is doubled) and whole swim is treated as an interval.
