Venu 2S Not getting Call Notifications but Getting All Texts

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this and I'm also not 100% sure if this issue coincided with the recent software update (it seems to be), but for some reason, I'm not getting any of my call notifications anymore but all other notifications are working. Prior to this, I was getting all call notifications and all texts.

Also, perhaps a separate question/issue though seems to be related, I also suddenly was getting ALL NOTIFICATIONS on my watch (even though through Garmin Connect I had toggled OFF most of my notifications except calls and text messaging services like SMS, Whatsapp, Signal, messenger etc.). I'm still getting some random notifications on my Venu 2s (even though the notification is technically turned off) but my bigger concern is that I'm not getting any of my Call Notifications now.

I've made sure all the permissions for the phone app are enabled for Garmin Connect, and notifications for calls are enabled etc etc. As I said, I'm getting all my text notifications and calls WERE working but just suddenly stopped.

Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

  • I am having the EXACT same problem - no longer getting call notifications but getting every notification that shows on my phone, even though I have most notifications toggled off for being pushed to the Venu 2.  And, yes, it didn't start doing this until I updated to 5.27.  I soft rebooted my watch.  Nothing.  Then I un-paired my watch from the Connect App and re-paired it.  Nothing.  Still no calls, and getting ALL notifications from my phone.  I didn't see your message, and started a similar thread earlier today.  Two people responded saying they have not had any problems since the update.

I hope Garmin notices this and comes up with a fix.  This has caused me to miss several calls already.

  • I'm sorry you're having the same frustrating problem as me - I'm surprised more people aren't having this issue but I really couldn't find anything about it online when I scoured the web. I also tried just turning off/on the watch (& my phone), and connecting and reconnecting my watch via bluetooth (so unpairing I guess), and also turning on all app notifications, syncing, and then turning off all the ones I didn't want and syncing again. And connecting to Garmin Express on my computer to make sure I had all my updates installed. And of course, checking all permissions for the phone app. None of that worked.

However, I think I have fixed the problem and was just coming on here to post it in case it would be helpful to anyone else! Hopefully it'll work for you too! I was thinking about doing a default setting reset on my watch (but dreading the thought of having to re-setup all my glances, activities and data fields) so decided to try just uninstalling the Garmin Connect app on my phone as there seemed to be a disconnect between the app & the watch (I did NOT remove the device from the Garmin Connect app and did NOT uninstall Connect IQ, just the Connect App). Then I reinstalled the Connect App, signed back in, went through a condensed form of the "setup" process (most of my previous settings seemed to have been already there), and then went to the Notifications and toggled on only the ones I wanted (including my phone app). Synced the watch and finally I'm getting my call notifications back!! And my texts messages are also coming through and so far, it seems that the other notifications that I have toggled OFF are not coming through (which previously, the ones toggled OFF were coming through too).

I also didn't lose any of the previously downloaded music from my computer/Spotify by just uninstalling and reinstalling the Connect App which I thought I might.

Hopefully this will work for you too! Not sure why the app didn't seem to be communicating with my phone just for the notifications part (all my activities and steps etc. were working fine). Out of curiosity, what phone do you have your watch connected to?

  • Thanks for the tip.  Just tried doing that and it didn't work.  Sadly.  One potential difference from your situation - when I re-installed the Connect app, I didn't need to sign back in.  It just paired automatically with my Venu 2 and I was in.  I did have to re-toggle all of my notifications, so there was some type of re-setting, but apparently it hasn't done the trick.  I am going to un-pair my Venu 2 and uninstall the app again, and see what happens.

By the way, I have it paired to a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.  It was last year's Samsung flagship phone.  So, it's a recent very powerful phone running the latest software.  So, I don't think the phone should be the issue.  That would be a much larger problem . . .

  • Second time was the charm.  To remove any doubt, before deleting the Connect App, I made it "forget" my Venu 2.  Powered off my watch and restarted it.  Then I re-installed the app.  This time, I signed out and signed back in.  Then added the Venu 2 back to the Connect App.  Then toggled my notifications.  Voila!

    Thanks for your help!

  • No problem at all and so happy you figured it out!! Glad I could be of some help at the very least! Super frustrating when ALL OTHER notifications are coming through but not calls! So, you did remove your device from the Connect App in that case? By removing it, did all your other settings (including downloaded music) get removed and need to be set up again?

  • Thanks, again.  Yeah.  That's the downside.  It's not like a factory reset but things like your music, customized text responses, and notifications needed to reset.   Looks like you were able to avoid that.  Are you on an iPhone?  Of so, maybe that's why we had slightly different fixes. I'm glad you didn't have to reload your music. It's a pain, but worth getting my notifications sorted out!  Cheers.

  • Yeah, the customized text responses did reset on the uninstall/reinstall on mine too but not that big a deal to me vs. the music downloads which from Spotify takes forever!

I'm on a Pixel 3 actually so a pseudo "older" version of the Pixel but still an android. I would have thought both Android phones would be similar but I guess not! But definitely worth getting the notifications sorted! I was getting pretty PO'd about all the notifications coming through b/c the purpose of the smartwatch/fitness watch for me was that I only wanted certain notifications and not everything (I didn't want a smart phone attached to my wrist - lol!).

  • Well, not only did I get the notifications sorted, but it looks like 5.27 actually improved the notifications function.  Have you noticed that with respect to texts, if you interact with the texts on your phone (you get the text notification on your watch, but then you decide to go to your phone to read the whole thing if needed, or to respond to it) that phone interaction will now automatically clear the text from your notifications on the watch?  Before, even if you looked at the text on your phone, the notification would still be on your watch and you'd have to separately clear it - which was annoying.  Looks like they took care of that in the update.

And, yes, I agree with you - I like to use the watch as a further filtering of the notifications I get.  I have it set so that if I get a notification on my watch, it's likely one I'll want to pay attention to.

  • Oh that's interesting! I think my watch was already doing that actually - if I looked at the notification on my phone (text messages etc.), it would automatically clear it from my phone notification even before the update. I wonder if that's more of a phone specific thing? Funny thing was I had trialed another tracker that didn't clear them automatically and when I got the Garmin, I was thinking that I almost didn't want the automatic clear especially if I hadn't had time to reply to the text yet!

Yeah, that's exactly how I use my watch too lol! Usually if i'm getting a notification on my watch, it's one I want to at least check!

  • FYI- I was having this issue.  I contacted Garmin, and the reason was because All Notifications were enabled in the Garmin Golf App, not Garmin Connect.  Once I turned off notifications in Garmin Golf, the issue was resolved.  Just passing on in case anyone else runs into this.
