Once the battery saver mode is enabled on Venu 2, it is impossible to change the watch face (please see the default watch face when battery saveer mode is enabled below). I would like to enable a digital watch face once battery saver is enabled. Any ideas if this is achievable, or there is a feature planned for this requirement in the near future?

Thank you! That is the correct answer! If you set a digital watch face in normal mode, then in battery saver mode the clock is digital.
If it is a custom (downloaded) or analog watch face then it is analog in battery save mode.
I use as third-party analog watch face and mine goes to a digital face in battery saver mode. 
I never use this mode so it shouldn't matter to me, but it would be nice to know how it works.
