Venu 2 overestimating calories

I recently switched to a Venu 2 from Fitbit

I have been using Fitbit products for many years, and they consistently give me reasonable calories estimations.

I am currently working from home and I normally walk 3000 steps per day. According to my Fitbit watches, my calories count would normally be 2600 Cal in this case. However, when I switch to Venu 2, it gives me a number of 4000 Cal per day.

I work out sometimes, and on my workout day, my calories would normally be 3500 Cal. However, when I work out in my regular routine, the Venu 2 tells me I burned 5000 Cal that day.

I have even worn both Garmin and Fitbit together for a few days for comparison, and I still see a huge difference (2600 Cal vs. 4000 Cal).

I am sure that my weight, height, and age are correct on the Garmin app, but there is no way I could burn 4000 Cal per day when I just sit at home all day.

  • Can't help you but my venu 2 is giving me around 2.2k calories per day + the active ones that depend on the workouts(700/1000).

    Definitely something strange with yours.

  • yeah, my resting calories are about 2.1k, and I basically sit there for the entire day, so it makes sense when Fitbit says 2700 cal, which is 2100 resting + 600 active.

A couple things to check. Make sure weight, height, sex and age are correct in Garmin Connect, and not just the mobile app.  In Garmin Connect, make sure you select your Activity Class correctly.  This factors in with Garmin's algorithm.  Make sure your RHR and Max HR are correct.  Calories burned are mainly based on HR.  And finally, make sure you have a good fit.  Your Fitbit and Garmin have different weights and designs.  If you're used to the feel of your Fitbit and wear your Garmin the same way, your Garmin may be too loose or tight.  I hope this helps.

  • I think you might be reading it wrong. It might be kcal which if you see like 5000kcal is the same as 500 calories burned. Cause if you burning over 3000 calories per day then you're losing weight everyday depending on how much calories you eat per day

Make sure that your resting heart rate is set on your Venu 2. ( Settings | User Profile | Heart Rate Zones | Default | Resting HR )
