My watch has a blank screen. Fully charged and has been functioning until now.

Sounds like this is the now famous "sync right after waking up" syndrome. I really hope that Garmin is aware of this, and is working on an update to the newest firmware. I see several threads where this problem is mentioned, along with myself.
